Icon5 Staying offsite-car? or no?

OK, my boyfriend and I are going to DW on Saturday thru Wed of next week...we are staying in Kissimmee at a different resort. Our hotel offers a comp shuttle to DW, and then we figured we would use Disney Transportation while we are there. Has anyone done this? Do you think we will be ok doing this? We will have a car for the first two days, but after that it will be shuttle. I have never been to DW, so I don't know what to expect or anything, and we leave in three days. Please help!

I think only WDW resort guests are suppose to use the transportation in WDW, so this may limit you some unless you plan on using taxis to park hop. You want to consider renting the car for the entire trip. That way you can go to and from your hotel when you want to and not have to rely on a shuttle.

First of all, welcome to DC. You know, this has always confused me. Surely all guests of the park are welcome to use the monorail? Aren't they? And the buses to the different parks?? I really don't know what the policy is. Could someone clue me in?

The policy for the buses is suppose to be for resort guests. There was even rumor that the drivers actually check resort Id's once in a blue moon. I have no idea about the theme park buses...I assume that is open.....my head hurts and I am confused too...someone has to know.

Thanks for the information. Appreciate it. I was actually looking at our tickets (park hopper plus) and it says you have access to "Convenient Walt Disney WorldŽ transportation -- monorails, ferryboats, and motor coaches" so I really hope that means we get to use them. Now if the hurricanes will just go away, we might pull this vacation off!

Re: Staying offsite-car? or no?

According to everything that I've read, most off-site shuttles only run at peak points of the day. Typically there will be a shuttle every 30 minutes in the morning until about 11am, then they run hourly or even every 90 minutes. Then, starting around 5 pm, they run every 30 minutes until closing.

I've read more that a few stories of families being stranded after closing and having to take a cab. Don't expect an off-site resort to re-imburse you if that happens to you.

Some hotels are apparently better than others. You might try doing a Google search to see if you can find someone's trip report about your hotel.

Re: Staying offsite-car? or no?

I used to work at a resort here in OHIO and we provided shuttle service back and forth to King's Island amusement park... by far the biggest complaint that we received was the shuttle service... Peak time was horrible, we only ran one bus and we had 200+ rooms... so I would ask the resort direct questions about the shuttle... you may find you NEED the car...

Re: Staying offsite-car? or no?

When waiting for our PC bus at Epcot, we saw a bunch of people standing in the middle of the parking lot waiting for a bus to Days Inn, They were complaining that they had been waiting so long. And another time while in line for a ride. A couple were saying that they would have to leave before wishes because the bus back to the hotel was coming before then. I have stayed off site before but have never used the transportation that the hotel provided. So I don't know for sure. HTH
