National's Poor Job

We rented from National this time and they really did a poor job. We got there and there was no car in our class (economy). So I asked the person in the air conditioned booth what to do. She said pick a larger size. I came back when again when ther were no intermediate or full-sized cars left either. She said take a full size from Alamo and pointed out the window. I don't think she would have gotten off her fat a** for anything other than a glazed donut.

When I returned the car I was charged an extra $20 for upgrading???? So I had to go to the booth to deal with a differnt fat a**ed lady to get it taken off the bill.

Overall, very poor service. I can't wait to use Quicksilver in October!!

Re: National's Poor Job

That is a shame! Sounds like very poor customer service. We used National to rent a car to go to The Space Center in April. We picked it up at the car care center near the magic kingdom, and except for the long line, we had no problems with them at all. So sorry to hear of your bad experience. I would definitely find someone to write a letter to!!

Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with National. We rented from the Car Care Center at MK this past May when my Nephew graduated HS. We had a great experience including walking in and out with no lines, and pick and drop off at CBR where we were staying.

Skwak

I will never rent again from Alamo/National due to several personal experiences similar to this. I have had great success with Dollar, and Hertz is always fantastic. I try to rent from Hertz if the prices are close, I always get a better car than I pay for from them.

What a bad experience. But what's up with all the cracks about being overweight?

Sorry it was more a "lazy" comment than an actual "overweight" one. No offense meant.

Re: National's Poor Job

Thanks for the correction. Isn't it an ugly thing that being overweight is so often seen as synonymous with laziness, or some other sort of inferiority? That's a very unfortunate stereotype. Remember when Jughead (from Archie) was shown as the paragon of laziness? And he was skinny as a rail!

Re: National's Poor Job

Never rent from National!! We had to rent from them once because from them we could get the car in San Francisco and drop it off in Phoenix. Every car they had in the class we rented (all 5 of them) were DIRTY!! One even had ANTS crawling around in it. It took us at least an hour to decide on one because they were all so dirty. And they didn't care one bit. Never again.

Re: National's Poor Job

Wow- so sorry to hear about your bad experience!

I have been having good luck with National this year! We rented from National four times in the past 6 months- in March, May (California), July and September. I used discount codes from Mousesavers.com and got ridiculously CHEAP rates for all of these trips. For example- I rented a Full Size (seated 6) Chevy Impala last week from MCO . For 6 days (early on the 15th through late on the 20th), including ALL taxes and fees $148. The car was perfect.

Re: National's Poor Job

We've never had a problem with National. In fact, their service to us has been outstanding. We were at WDW on 9/11. Of course, with planes grounded we couldn't get home. We had a rental car from National which we were suppose to return on 9/12. They let us keep it and drive it all the way to North Dakota for no extra charge. (as rental cars can't cross the border, a friend picked us up there). My husband phoned to thank them for being so accommodating and they reimbursed us for our whole trip!

Re: National's Poor Job

When we went @ 1.5 years ago we had a National Mini van. It was brand new and had less than 200 miles on it. The van was loaded also, even had a DVD in it. I would most likely give them another try, but we will hopefully have a new van ourselves by the next time we go, I can not imagine driving DW's 2 door Focus all the way (I cann't stand driving it, it is made for little people ). My DW also has decided that flying is not an option (she did not like the fact that it is so tight on the plane and the fact that they never even made you put your seatbelt on (I thought it was strange too but the plane was so tight where could you go?). Also trains are not an option as there are not any straight through rides from RI, all layovers are in NY, DC or another scary location, she was way too nervous in those stations (heck I liked the train even though the NY station was full of transients, they don't bother me, I don't bother them).

Re: National's Poor Job

they have to give you a car for the price you paid and i am glad you knew to question that charge. we always book an economy because a. we fit. b. we may end up getting a bigger car as this happens quite often since they don't have any more economies. i rented the smalled economy from thrifty it was a 3 cyl daewoo. the guy was trying to upsell me and lied and said it has no trunk but believe it or not the trunk was quite large considering. nobody cares anymore about service sometimes you get a bad one.
