Atlanta, GA Airport
I am leaving for Florida from California and I have a stop in Atlanta. A friend of mine told me that the airport is very confusing. She also mentioned something about a subway train. Should I be scared??
This is my second time flying but I dont really have any memory of the first time...

Re: Atlanta, GA Airport
The airport is very large and they use underground trams to transport passengers from gates to baggage areas. But everything is easy to understand well at least it was when I last flew in there...several years ago. Maybe someone whose been recently can give you more info. Check out the website to get a feel for the layout http://www.atlanta-airport.com.

Re: Atlanta, GA Airport
Here is what I would recomend: When you get to Atlanta ask the Gate Agent, The Airline Rep meeting your flight, or the flight attendant on your flight what the best way to get across the airport is. If you find yourself lost do not keep going!! Stop and go the closest gate with a small line, and ask them. Never continue walking if you don't know where you are. Also, you can get the gates that you will be using and plan your route. Flying can be intimidating, but that is what your airline is there for.

Re: Atlanta, GA Airport
The airpost is huge and confusing, but the staff is VERY polite and helpful. You will be fine. I have flown into that airport twice and had no issues either time.

Re: Atlanta, GA Airport
The airport is actually very easy to navigate. the terminals are set up parallel to each other like this lllll. The subway train runs underneath it and connects all of the terminals together like this----- ( does that make any sense?) it will help to ask the gat agent and they can tell you how to get to the train. The train is downstairs from each terminal, so you have to go up and down the escalator to get on/off the train. it is not too bad, but it never hurts to ask...

Re: Atlanta, GA Airport
I have one warning that might serve in Atlanta as much as it does at Washington National. If your flight lands at one finger of the terminal and your next flight is in another finger, you might find yourself having to go through the metal detector/body search all over again, even though you were cleared at your first airport. Just keep this in mind.

Re: Atlanta, GA Airport
We were just there last week. We had a connecting flight via Delta. I think we went from terminal A to C or something like that. I had never been there before and had no problems. The signs overhead were clearly marked. The subway thing was no big deal - really similar to Orlando. I would not worry at all. :)

Re: Atlanta, GA Airport
I have flown to Florida via Atlanta many times. I was always traveling with four children and I do not remember this being any harder to manage than any other airport. Just read the signs!

Re: Atlanta, GA Airport
i live not terribly far from atlants and the subway that goes through the airport is actually part of the atlanta metro system...meaning...you can ride it into downtown....at least it used to be that way before 9-11.....

Quote:
MARTA is the system that runs all over Atlanta. MARTA does have a stop at the airport but Hartsfield Airport has a totally seperate "subway" system that only runs thru the terminals to navigate thru the airport only. It is not connected to MARTA at all. Follow the sighs - it is too confusing.
