After searching for a good airfare price, US AIR comes up frequently as the best buy for my dates. I am very reluctant to book with them because of their financial troubles and the fact that they left a lot of people stranded in the airport at Christmas time. What is everyone's opinion? I am still holding out that Southwest will pull through and give me a better rate as my date gets closer.

Re: Should I trust US air???
I had the same fear when planning our last trip (Nov. 2004) When booking airline tickets in Sept. I was in the same dilema & thought should I book on another airline? It was the same cost, so it didn't really matter between Airtran or US air so I booked Airtran....Thank goodness I did! I found out only days later that they cancelled the exact flights I was considering! As long as you can get the same price and times you need....better to be safe than sorry when dealing with a company whose future is questionable.

Re: Should I trust US air???
We booked through US Air BUT on United planes. I felt pretty comfortable with that, plus, we were flying during all that XMAS hullaboo and we weren't affected at all. I booked through Expedia, and they will tell you that it's a US Air ticket but serviced by United. Best of all, you get the US Air prices.
I would not fly on Southwest unless the savings was enough to make it really worth it. Their cattle call methods are just not appealing to me at all when flying with kids. |

Re: Should I trust US air???
karliebug, I don't have personal experience with US AIR, but I do know that holding out for Southwest has paid off for me in the past. One year the great rates didn't appear until 1 month before our trip, but the savings were incredible and we were sooooo glad we waited to book! Good luck!

Re: Should I trust US air???
Southwest has rates available until September, just keep your eyes open, I am going in july and got round trip from providence to orlando non stop $175. I have flown 73 times in my life and Southwest has always been wonderful. They are my top choice to fly to Orlando. My father is flying my brother and I to Virginia for a visit and we are taking US Air. We have to switch planes in Philly and wouldn't you know the agent booked us to land at 11:30 in Philly and switch planes and leave philly at 12:00 I dont think that will be happening so we will be changing. But southwest is worth the wait. USAir isnt my favorite airline they always are delayed or something. Maybe just bad luck I dont know lol. But thats just me. Southwest is my favorite though

Re: Should I trust US air???
Used USAir for our Dec. 2004 trip. Had a great flight into Orlando. We arrived at MCO for our flight home and the counter agent immediately let us know that our flight was going to be delayed significantly and offered to rebook us. Our new flight took off a 1/2 hour earlier, but the airline was very accommodating. Our connection out of DC was a whole other story. That night, ALL airlines were experiencing weather-related problems...and DC airports literally shut down at 8pm. We hadn't eaten since early that afternoon, since we'd planned on grabbing something at MCO, but there was no where to eat at Dulles. Thousands of stranded passengers from all over and not one gift shop, bar, etc. was open.
This is all by way of saying that we will be booking USAir for our next trip if their price is comparable, but always remember that there are things out of the airline's control that can snag your plans.

Re: Should I trust US air???
USAir DOES NOT have a very good safety record compared to many of the other airlines. I know I'm a big chicken, but USAir is one of the last airlines I'd set foot upon, and trust me, I've researched airline safety quite a bit.

Re: Should I trust US air???
We booked through US Air for our upcoming trip. We were too nervous to wait for better rates. I am just so nervous about losing our luggage. We've flown on US Air plenty of times and have had not problems. Only once did we have to wait over an hour for our bags, which was on our return home thank goodness.

Re: Should I trust US air???
I am too afriad to ride USAir, I have trusted Delta for 8 years. And about the luggage being lost, each of member of my family packs ONE suitcase and that is what we bring on the plane. This way, it can't get lost! It also saves us time when we get off the plane.... no waiting for luggage- straight to Disney!

Re: Should I trust US air???
I don't trust the future of US Air. I have an upcoming trip and US Air was the cheapest and flight times were good for my trip. I just could not get past the fear of them going out of business while I was away. Would hate to get stranded while on a business trip.

Re: Should I trust US air???
After my last trip, I will NEVER fly USAIR again!!!!!!!!!!!!
They did not put any of our bags on the flight and sent 1/2 of them on the next flight out to Orlando and then I finally got my bags around midnite, my 1st nite in Disney! My dd had to sleep in the clothes she came down with. And on the way home we waited almost 2 hours for our bags!!!! No way, no how, will I ever fly them again. They are in bankruptcy, they are under staffed and they just dont care about their passengers. I rather pay more $$ and fly a more reputable airline. You should have some time still, when are you going to Disney?

Re: Should I trust US air???
Well , I just booked with southwest for $79 each way. I think the price may go down but I think if it does I can rebook and get what I paid toward future flights. At least, I think that is what they do.
