Re: Magical Express Info

Well I did find out something...when I called Walt Disney Travel Company back..and asked them about the Magical Express. They told me that they already took care of booking Magical Express for me. She stated that when one books a package through them the Express is automatically taken care off.

Interesting and good to know! I am wondering how they would know someone's flight info though? That is important for your return flight, so they pick you up at the right time.

This was booking the package through Walt Disney Travel themselves. And booking air through them.

We just had issues with our flights, I would check the status of your flight right before you leave and call disney travel to confirm magical express times, our flight had been changed w/o our knowledge and magical express was not aware of the change in times.

As long as you are in the system a change in flight time shouldn't be a problem.

We have always rented a car and driven to WDW from the airport. It seems our intent on getting off property for a day trip falls through and....I can hit walMart at home, not in Orlando!

This Sept will be our first time using the Magical Express so we are hoping all the good things we heard on their service is true.

Re: Magical Express Info

Has anyone found Magical Express to be a painful experience? I've heard pros and cons. We have a family vacation of 10 planned and are planning on using it; however, not sure based on some of the posts I've read throughout the web. Any thoughts from anyone?

We've used ME maybe 5 times and have always had a positive experience. Most of the time we are at our resort in 60-75 minutes with our luggage a couple of hours behind. We think it's a good service and will continue to use it for all our trips. For us it's a no stress start to our trip.

Re: Magical Express Info

Thanks for your input. We are booked for the ME, but our reservationist told us if we were uncomfortable with the fact that they take care of our luggage and we don't have to worry about it, we can opt not to use the tags they provide and gather our own luggage, ride the ME, and grab our luggage when we get to the hotel. Based on your feedback, sounds like it is a "no brainer."

Re: Magical Express Info

Thanks for the link! I had a few questions regarding the luggage at the airport - I am so paranoid about lost luggage . And also about how they do the outbound luggage (sounds like a great thing not to have to worry about checking it in at MCO).

You'd think I would know better since I was a front desk CM for 3 years, but for some reason all the info I need for my own trip I have managed to forget

I'll try to answer your questions and quell your fears.

As far as lost luggage, the AIRLINE is where your fear should be directed, not Disney.

DME luggage tags have barcodes. When the luggage makes its way between airplane and baggage claim, airport employees and Disney CMs pull the DME-tagged bags from the regular luggage stream and bring them to Disney's own luggage sorting facility, which is on the grounds of the airport. DME tags are scanned for the first of FIVE times. Bags are sorted by zone and then by individual resort. They are scanned again and then loaded into locked cages, and then the cages are loaded onto DME luggage delivery trucks and the cage itself is scanned. The trucks themselves are tracked by GPS.

Cages are dropped off at the individual resorts. The luggage is now in the hands of resort Bell Services/Luggage Assistance CMs. The bags are scanned a fourth time as they are taken from the cages, and then are scanned a fifth and final time AFTER they are brought inside the guest's room, whether or not the guest is inside the room at that time.

In other words, Disney knows where your bags are at all times.

More on "outbaound" luggage when I have more time.

Just make sure someone from your party goes down about 30 minutes before your due time and stands in line. We were due for the 8:15 am bus on Saturday, got there about 8:05 and the line was really long. By the time they got to the party before us, there was no room on the bus. We had to wait for the 8:45 bus, evidently alot of the 8:45 people got on the 8:15 bus, and from what I understand, this happens frequently. Heck, you still get there 2.5 hours ahead of your flight, that's plenty of time at that airport!
