On-Line Boarding Passes

I travel a little on business, and have gotten the on-line boarding passes a few times. When I am not traveling with luggage it have saved me a lot of time checking in. But, I don't see the point if you have an assigned seat and are checking luggage. I have heard of others staying up past idnight the night before atrip to print these out. Am I missing a benefit by not doing it?

Re: On-Line Boarding Passes

I did this when we flew Southwest since they don't have assinged seating. For our return flight I went to the check-in desk at Pop Century at midnight. They gladly printed out our boarding passes.

I thought of that as a benefit to those flying SouthWest, but we're flying Delat Song and already have our seat assignments. Plus, we're checking luggage. Is there any benefit for us to do this?

Re: On-Line Boarding Passes

In that case, not really. We usually fly Delta too, so we usually print out our boarding pass at the airport kiosk and then check our bags. I do check on-line where the gate will be just so I know I am going to the correct part of the airport.

I guess if you know the airport kiosk and desk will be packed, it could save you a little time if you print them at home.

Hmmmm, good question.
We fly Delta/Song all the time and always do the on-line check in. And we always check luggare at the curb.
I guess the only benefit is that it makes it slighty faster at the curb for checking in.

OK - that did it. I'll try it. Although I have to say, I usually fly out of Providence instead of Logan. One of my last business trips was the first day of Spring Break and the Providence airport was a zoo! I actually gave up waiting for curbside because the line to check luggage inside was shorter (don't even ask me about the security line that day, though ).

Hopefully Logan won't be too bad that day. I haven't flown out of there in years, but got a rate we just couldn't turn down ($155 each non-stop). We plan on getting there 2 hrs early just in case.

OMG! You're not only going to be in WDW/USF at virtually the same time as us...you're flying out of PVD?? We live right near the airport.

No, I usually fly out of Providence. This time we got a great deal on Song and are flying out of Boston. I live half-way between the two, but I like PVD much better!

We live half way between both airports also! We use to fly out of PVD all the time but the last few years we've been going out of Boston. We have had good luck with Boston, most of our flights are first thing in the morning when the airport isn't very busy yet. We usually get there 1 1/2 hrs early and it usually only takes us about 1/2 hr to 45 minutes to get to the gate but I always leave plenty of time because you never know when that one time will be that things are moving slow.

Re: On-Line Boarding Passes

If you check in online, they won't give your seat away. Some airlines will overbook, and if you don't check in early you might not make it on the flight. Also, it saves us a lot of time. It is much easier to check the baggage at the curb. Then all we need to do is go straight to security. We print our boarding passes for every flight.

How do you check in online? We are flying Delta the last week of September. I am new at this so don't know much.

Re: On-Line Boarding Passes

Just go to the airline's website. In your case Lustergirl, it should be delta.com Go to Itinerary Search and Check-in. Just enter the required info and you can print your own boarding pass. You can usually change your seat assignment at this time. You can do this within 24 hours of your flight departure.

Re: On-Line Boarding Passes

I have also used the online check-in & printed my own boarding pass (& tickets!) through American Airlines. It worked out very well, and I got exactly the seat I selected on all flights. I used either the curb check-in for baggage or the desk, whichever looked less crowded, and then went right to the gate. No hassles, and I felt it saved time & energy!
