Rent a car?

I am planning a trip down to WDW in December 2003. Just a party of two (my boyfriend and I) and are wondering if getting a rental car will be worth the money. We plan on staying at the Port Orleans French Quarter. Free transportation to the parks is a definite plus, but I read that getting from resort to resort by bus can take up to an hour and half each way. We planned on going to some other Disney resorts for breakfast and then hitting the parks from there and were thinking that it just might be easier to drive by car to the resorts and take the bus to the parks from there. Will getting a car be more "time saving" or should we just rely on Disney's transportation? Has anyone found that renting a car helps??

Alexa, this is an age old discussion. Be prepared, you'll hear from everyone with great arguments on each side. Personally, we never get a car. We discovered several years ago that not having to drive just enhances the "magical world" experience. As soon as you get in a car the whole world comes right back in & you realize you're still a part of it. That said, we generally don't do a lot of resort to resort travel. I've heard you frequently have to get a bus to someplace else first before you actually get on a bus for your resort destination. We prefer staying at a resort around the boardwalk (BWI, BC, YC) so we can stroll over to EPCOT or MGM. Our favorite restaurants for the most part are park related. (We love grabbing a pastry & latte at Fountainview Espresso in EPCOT!) Of course there is Cape May & Beaches & Cream at BC.

Well that's my opinion...get ready for a bunch more!

We had always rented a car until we went in December 2002. While it was more relaxing using the bus system, I think we will rent again during our next trip. While taking the bus was efficient to go from resort to park and back, it just isn't if you are going resort to resort. To drive from POFQ to WL takes about 5 minutes, but it will take about an hour on the bus.

If you plan on staying at a moderate, and plan on visiting other resorts during your stay, I would suggest renting. You can get a small car for about $100 for the week. Even if you only use it to get to WDW and back, and to drive to other resorts a couple of times during the week, you will be way ahead. Still, use the bus system to get to the parks and back. It won't be crowded in early December, so you shouldn't have to wait too much for the bus. It is much more relaxing not having to worry about finding the car, parking and everything else.

rent a car

I would say absolutely rent a car. We always rent the cheapest car we can find. L and M is very cheap and it is at the terminal. You will get free parking at the parks because you are staying in the resort. We rented a car and decided to take a bus back to hotel and it took over an hour when driving would have been 10 minutes. if you book now you could probably get 125.00 a week including tax. i am a fan of renting a car as you can see ;)

Why rent a car??????????? You are on vacation, take your time and relax. We rented a car once, and you must always watch for the other people who THINK they know how to drive, but........the choice is really yours, but i vote, no rent:nooo:
