The Western way is set to open April 4th. According to a article in the orlando sentinal. The western way runs from west buena vista drive (between blizzard beach and corando springs) to Hartzog RD (access point for the new state highway 429)

This will be great for people who drive in via the FL turnpike (from the north side) it will let you dodge I-4 and the traffic light prone US-27. Simply take the FL turnpike to the 429 southbound, and exit for Hartzog rd/ DISNEY and follow the signs it will bring you into Disney without all the traffic.

For those of you coming up from The TAMPA/ ST PETE area, it really won't help you much except if there is a accident or something on I-4, but once the 429 opens the stretch from 192 to I-4 it will be another route in for you as like a backup road. Just hop off I-4 onto 429 north and go to the Hartzog RD/Disney exit and follow the signs. Like I said this won't save you any time unless I-4 is backed up, coming from Tampa.

WOW, awesome, I-4 can DEFINATELY be 1/2 the battle. I used to drive up from West Palm and I remember sitting in traffic for 45 minutes TRYING to get from the Turnpike to WDW on I-4!! Sounds like a GREAT alternative!

Western Way has Officialy opened from buena vista drive to SR 429. The final 400ft after the 429 is being worked on by the state and has not been completed. But you can access the 429 north and south, hopefully the rest of the road will open soon. THe road is in really nice shape but could use some work on the speed limit, its just too low (35mph).

35 mph?!

I'm from a city that has more 35 mph roads than you could ever imagine. I can't imagine the limit being that low!

I don't have a problem with 35mph limits, But I think the speed limit should fit the road. This is a 4 lane divided highway with minimal traffic, 45mph sounds reasonable to me.

How cool! I love to save time, and avoiding I-4 would be even better :) So when I come down the turnpike, I can now exit at 429 for WDW?

Yup Just take the fl turnpike to 429 southbound, exit at Hartzog RD/Disney.

I don't think so, my Atlas is older than my children. But we always come in on 4, so it'll be nice to know of another route. We saw it in March as we were leaving Coronado Springs, so maybe we'll try it in 2008.
