Airline strike question
I know it's a bit to early to panic, but I just caught wind of a possible Delta strike.
Of course we are flying Delta for our trip in May. Any idea what happens when there is a strike ? Do they try and get you on another airline or are you just out of luck? Thanks

Re: Airline strike question
We are flying with NorthWest in May and I have been nervous about a strike, but my DH said that if an airline does strike they try to get you another flight.
Do not know if this is correct or if he was just tring to ease my fear. I'll keep my fingers crossed that Delta does not strike. ![]()

Re: Airline strike question
Look at mousesavers.com. There is some information on there. I know that there is some sort of recourse if you paid by credit card, but not if you paid by check!!! Good luck!

Re: Airline strike question
Delta is on strike? ...yikes. I should call the folks at home and get the scoop; my pops uses that for business trips!! And naturally thats our airline of choice for years since we just use his flying miles.
I really really like Delta! ![]()

Re: Airline strike question
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you Buzz! I just read that Delta is saying that if they strike that will be the end of them. Let's hope it changes the minds of the workers - for you sake anyway!

Re: Airline strike question
Good luck Buz. I hope you paid with a Credit Card, but that may not even be a sure thing. If they go on strike, I believe that any flight after 48 hours they will TRY and get you on another carrier. The Pilots and the Company have known since December that a mid April deadline is coming and they are still very far apart in what each one wants. From what I am hearing (We have neighbors who are pilots for Delta), it is not a matter of If they will strike, but when.
That being said, I would not book anything on Delta until this fiasco is over. Buz, clink on the link for more info... http://www.wcpo.com/wcpo/localshows/.../1c3274b4.html

Re: Airline strike question
If you use a credit card and the tickets were non-refundable you may be able to have delta book you on another flight if you used a travel agent have them rebook you on another airline asap. If the pilot strike Delta will go the way of Eastern and TWA. But they did it to themselves with those outrageous union contracts. Both sides are at fault.

Re: Airline strike question
they had a story on the local news here last night and they had a rep from AAA. they said that if you bought your ticket before the possible strike was annouced AND bought trip insurance that you should be fine. but some trip insurance does not cover strikes and if you buy the ticket after the potential strick is announced that the trip insurance will not cover it. of course, they said that the AAA insurance should cover it if bought before. like cavey said, they also recommended that you purchase with a credit card because then if the airline does not honor the ticket then you can dispute it with the credit card company. as far as other carriers honoring your ticket, they said that they will TRY but they do not guarantee.
oh, i almost forgot, they said that if you are flying one of the routes that use the local carriers under the delta umbrella that you probably won't be affected. these pilots are not part of the delta union. hope this helps! |

Re: Airline strike question
Buzz, we're on Delta the week after you (hopefully). The only thing that makes me optimistic is both the company and the pilots know that if there is a strike, Delta is done. So it would seem to me that both would be highly motivated to avoid a strike.

Re: Airline strike question
I read in the article provided in this link that Delta and Comair are linked...what about AirTran? They are also affiliated as far as I know; when my flight back to school through Delta was canceled (some safetey junk or whatever) they set me up with AirTran. They are NOT my favorite airline of choice, but what will become of them?
Good to hear other airlines will honor SkyMiles, otherwise my pops would not be makin much dough! ![]()
