RX meds in carry on

This is a dumb question. I went to the TSA web site and it doesnt say anything about having prescription meds in your carry on luggage. It talks about insulin and needles. I am assuming that its OK to have your meds with you in your purse or carry on? My daughter is on a form of Ritalin for ADD and I have a couple of muscle relaxants for muscle tension. I dont want to put them in my checked luggage in case my bags get lost. I dont plan on putting anything valuable in my checked luggage, just for the fact that they might search my luggage and I dont want anything to turn up missing.

I have medicine that I have to take everyday. When I travel, I always take twice as much as I think I will need in my carry on, another bottle in my wife's carry on and then pack some more in my suitcase that I check. I have never had any problem with any of it, but better safe than sorry.

Hey Kim,

You oughtn't have any problem with prescription meds in your carry on. I've taken things in there and haven't ever had an issue with it. If you want to be sure, just ask when you check in.

Kim,

Just be sure you have everything in the original containers with the labels on.

Hi Kim, Have been bringing my med's in my purse for years, and never had a problem. I feel it is much safer to have them in yours purse, because you have that in your possession at all times. Both my husband and I take certain med's everyday, so it's something you want to have close by. I've even put my pills , in a larger pill container, that is something that has the days of the week on it, because when your at DW, you know that you should take that certain pill, but when your having so much fun, there were times I did forget. Also, I carry a smaller container with certain med's, especially my migrane medication with me at all times. I also take extra pills with me, because you just don't know. I suppose taking the pills in their regular containers would also be a good idea, but just take what you need to , and a few extra pills wouldn' hurt. I think with all this great advice from everyone you will be fine!!!! :) :) JOANN

Good advice Joann--extra is always better. I can't go a single day w/o my Allegra. It's not a drug my life is dependent on but it would wreck my trip to go w/o it because I am such a mess when I don't take it. I would also hate to waste the time trying to get refills out of town since I deal with a local pharmacy at home.

What did the site say about needles? Are they forbidden? I don't see how they can do that oif you need it. Unless of course they have the crew hold onto in the event you need you it. Oral meds should not be a problem if you have them in the original containers.

Re

It says you can take diabetic supplies on the plane with you after they have been inspected to make sure you are not concelling any prohibited items. Including:
Insulin and insulin loaded dispensing products
Vials, jet injectors, pens, infusers and preloaded syringes, and an unlimited number of unused syringes, lancets, blood glucose meters, test strips, insulin pumps, and insulin pump supplies,

Insulin in any form or dispenser must be properly marked with a professional printing label indentifying the medication or manufacturers name or pharmaceutical label.

Thats all it says about insulin supplies.
