Icon5 Mears -vs- Lynx From POR To SeaWorld & Back

So, we're planning a day trip to SeaWorld.

From POR, short of using a taxi, limo or rental, I know transportation options are avail thru Mears or Lynx.

As for cost, no doubt Lynx is way cheaper.

However, it's a logistical challenge, getting from POR to TTC (via one of the parks, then on to TTC), catching Lynx to SeaWorld. Why don't they have busses from resorts to TTC? Anyway, I understand if you ask the Lynx driver, they'll drop you off right at Seaworld? For the return trip, I think we'd have to walk about a mile to the Lynx bus stop? Then we gotta go to a park from TTC, to catch a WDW bus back to POR?

Now Mears, a bit more expensive, but they pick us up right at POR in the a.m. and right at SeaWorld for return trip.

So, have any of y'all used one or the other, or both, for transportation to SeaWorld, or other Orlando destinations?

If so, Pros? Cons?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Mears -vs- Lynx From POR To SeaWorld & Back

With Lynx you are looking at a 1.5 hour trip each way, it might be shorter but yo need to plan that. Thats your time from your resort to the ticket gate at seaworld. The bus driver can't drop you at the entrance but maybe you could ask for the second stop at seaworld, I don't know if its closer or not to the entrance. Instead of having to walk across the car parking lot you have to walk across the bus parking lot. As for the return trip you will need to cross sea harbor blvd and board the bus on the other side of the road, there are a few stops just wait at one of the lynx signs (cat paw print). I would also recomend checking the scheadule for the #50 and make sure that is the only bus you board, there are others that go to those stops.

Re: Mears -vs- Lynx From POR To SeaWorld & Back

I did a day trip to Sea World last trip and used Tiffany towncar to take me to and from. I found them to be the cheapest in the area for a town car service. Quicksilver is another car service and their rate is about the same. A taxi will cost you the same or a bit more. You can get one in front of your resort and they have them all over the place outside of Sea World. I seen them just parked there waiting for people. Renting a car would probally be the most economical way to go about it if you are comfortable driving there.

Yah I didn't think about the car rental. National/alamo is on disney property at the dolphin or the car care center. The dolphin would be the easist but the car care center will pick you up. I'm not sure about the dolphin. Worst case for the dolphin would be take a bus to the studio's walk over to the dock and board the boat it will be the first stop the boat makes. The drive is very simple and they will be happy to give you directions at the rental counter.

Re: Mears -vs- Lynx From POR To SeaWorld & Back

Thanks y'all.

We don't really wanna rent. I don't like driving at home, let alone on vacation if I can help it.

I had forgotten all about Tiffany for local service.

We used Tiffany for our Airport Transportation last time. Great service.

For our family of 5 - It looks like they're $10 cheaper than Mears, which is $15/per person. But, if you figure in a tip for Tiffany, it'd be a wash, no?

That said, Tiffany would be on our schedule. Unlike Mears, where we'd be stuck to their schedule.

Wrong with mears you set the schedule when you make the call, they also have generic buses that go there that those go by schedule and you have nothing to say about it. But a town car you set the pup time both times.

Re: Mears -vs- Lynx From POR To SeaWorld & Back

Tiffany did the trick.

Picked us up as scheduled in the morning and they were there to pick us up an hour after we called from SW for the trip home.

Thanks again.

I am glad you used them and all went well. They did a fabulous job for me this past October...glad to see they are keeping it up. I am using them for airport transportation in October.

Re: Mears -vs- Lynx From POR To SeaWorld & Back

To hijack my own thread - Our driver told us Tiffany has taken a major hit as a result of ME. They went from a peak of about 38 drivers pre-ME, to 18 post-ME.

I figured ME was going to impact them and other local transportation companies, but to lose over half your workforce, whoa!

Re: Mears -vs- Lynx From POR To SeaWorld & Back

hi
my son and I will be staying at POFQ for 12 days in December and want to do universal & seaworld as well as the premium outlet shops.
I thought we could do the outlet shops on the way home from seaworld one of the days.
Can you suggest a reliable & economical way to get around.
I do not drive, so car hire isn't an option.
thanks

Re: Mears -vs- Lynx From POR To SeaWorld & Back

When my family & I ever stay at POR we always use Mears but the trick is to request the Shuttle & not a cab. OK, you may have to share it and pick somebody else up on the way but we found they were considerably cheaper and very reliable. A quick call to their office prior to departure from a park and they were there without fail. A very organised company in our opinion.

In fact, I have a brief tale to tell. Back in 1997 we stayed off site and I had made plans to propose to my girlfriend (now my DW) at the MK in front of Donald as this was her fav character. Anyhow, on our first day of our vacation we went to Epcot and on returning back to our apartment I stupidly left our video camera (which I had planned to use to get footage of my proposal) on the back seat of the cab. You can imagine the distress After a very sad evening imagine our surprise when the cab driver somehow tracked down our apartments tel. no and told us he still had the video camera and would drive all the way out down the 192 and drop it off to us. When he arrived we were ecstatic and my DW (then just my girlfriend) leapt into his arms and we naturally tipped him enormously.

So not only does this prove to us that Mears are a fine company it also proves that there is still some humanity out there.

When you get out of see world just hop into a iRide trolley and go to the outlets, the trolley is only $1 so it will be cheap and from SW to the outlets will take no time there is not many people they pick up in that area .
After the outlets just take a cab back to downtown disney or directly to PO wich ever is cheaper and if you stay in DTD just take a bus back to your resort. I know linx goes into the outlets but not sure if its the same bus that goes into TTC.

No it is not the same bus route, you would need to board the number 8 at ethier of the outlets and take it to seaworld then transfer to the number 50 across the street from seaworld to get back to the TTC, hop the monorail over to the Magic kingdom or Epcot then hop a bus to your resort.
