Re: Car seats on the Disney buses?

My son has been going to WDW since he was about 15 months old and of course has never been restrained on any of the buses......but it is a tad dangerous. Don't you think? I just say a few prayers and hold him as tight as I can on the bus but it has crossed my mind that one of those busses could get into an accident. I am completely anal at home about him and my nephews always being strapped into their carseats/booster seats and I did a lot of research to find which were rated best for safety.....I also pass this imformation onto people that I know because I think car safety is so important. I guess I feel a little guilty about throwing caution to the wind in WDW but I do it.

I am TOTALLY the same way. I would NEVER EVER let Nathaniel in a car without a booster...and he's almost 5. He won't even let me turn the car on unless he's belted in! But at WDW, on the busses and such, there is no place for a car seat at all!

And Dana, I SO totally wanted to smack that person! I mentioned that I put Genavieve on my lap and got flamed. Oh well, to each their own.

Re: Car seats on the Disney buses?

I'm not so surprised about people not bringing car seats on the buses. Even if they had seat belts, it takes me about an hour to get my son's car seat strapped in just the right way !!! Our bus would never leave!! (All kidding aside, it certainly is not the safest way for kids to travel)

You know what else isn't safe.....everyone standing on top of each other in the aisles! My brother (who is not a small guy) was standing near the back entrance of the bus (by the stairs), and the bus made a sudden stop. He went flying down into the stairway. Luckily, he kind of caught himself, because his one hand hit the door, and it looked as though it would have opened. If he would have hit it with both hands, I'm sure he would have been face first on the pavement.

Re: Car seats on the Disney buses?

Our DD was 1 1/2 last year, and we didn't think about a car seat either. Our only issue was the town car that was picking us up for the airport...but they never showed up and we had to drive ourselves at the last minute anyway, so problem solved!

I just hold tight to Kelsey and think safe thoughts!

Just so you know, you can request a carseat or booster seat for your towncar. When we booked ours last May they gave us one at no extra charge.....it doen't sound like you will be using one again anytime soon, though. They never showed!?!?!?!? That stinks!!

Re: Car seats on the Disney buses?

We were on a Disney bus once when some mothers got into a HUGE fight with the driver, because they wanted to keep their kids in their strollers. No thought to the people that had to maneuver around the strollers, or, if heaven forbid there was an accident, that the kid could be catapulted through the bus window in the stroller. They almost came to blows with the driver - he refused to move until they took their kids out, they refused to take them out. After 15 minutes he told them he'd have to contact his superiors and have them removed from the bus. That finally did it, but they complained - loudly - all the way to the MK.

OMG! That had to be a sight to see! I'm surprised the other passengers didn't just throw them off for holding up the bus!

Re: Car seats on the Disney buses?

I was just thinking that it would be nice if the busses had the built in car seats like some minivans do. An adult could sit in it, but if a child needs the restraits you just flip it down. I think its good from around 20 some pounds.

Why would someone flame you for that?! There is no choice but to hold children since there are no seatbelts. Maybe they had never been on a WDW bus?

Not only did they never show, they caused us to miss our flight and pay to rebook, wait on standby for hours with a 1 1/2 year old, park our car in long term parking at JFK for 7 days (that's a fortune here in NY), and several phone calls later, they actually had the nerve to tell me the guy just over slept. I ended up suing them in small claims to recover my money.

On a side note, I bought a portable car seat online before we left, which I had planned to use in the towncar. It's basically just a 5 point harness attached to a padded back (imagine taking just the back off your carseat, with the straps and buckle). It locked into the car using the car's seatbelt, and it was so compact! Now, it just sits in her closet!

That is awful! I hope you won your case - couldn't they have come up with a better excuse? The guy overslept?!?!?! I would be embarassed to tell a client that! I hope they fired him - what a liability he is!
