Lost our seats on return flight??

Here's the scoop . . .

On 10/03/06 we were able to choose our seats for our return flight from Orlando via NWA. We made our choices and printed out the confirmation. Last night I went to review our flight reservations, etc. online and saw "seat: not assigned" for the return flight. So I email customer no-service and get this response back:

"While most seats are available to be pre-assigned, Northwest does
reserve some seats on all flights for assignment only at the time of
check-in. There are currently no seats left to be pre-assigned on your
flight. You do have a secured space on our plane, but we cannot tell
you which specific seat will be accommodating you.

While we do our best to seat passengers according to their preferences,
it is not always possible on a full aircraft. We recommend checking in
early in order to ensure flexibility in seating. With an E-ticket, you
may check in and choose from available seats online. Access the "Check
In for your Flight" box on our homepage at Northwest Airlines - Airline Tickets, Plane Tickets & Airfare within 24 hours
of departure.

The seats that you had in your itinerary are not available at this time,
and seat 14-c that you said you had is a Coach Choice seat that is only
available for 15.00 24 hours before the departure of the flight.

I trust that this answers your questions on seat assignments, you can
request for different seat assignments during the check in process.

Thank you for choosing Northwest Airlines. We value your patronage and
consider it a privilege to serve your travel needs."

Seat 14-c obviously was NOT a Coach Choice seat at the time or I wouldn't have been able to choose it!! They are clearly marked on the chart you choose from! So, now what? The only seats left are the ones you pay extra for . . . we aren't paying extra to sit there!!!!!!! And I really don't want DS sitting by himself on the plane.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Re: Lost our seats on return flight??

It happens all the time.

Don't sweat it.

I would check in early, however, and point out the glitch at the gate.

Northwest normally does not seperate families, especially where small children are concerned.

Hope this answers your question..

Re: Lost our seats on return flight??

The same thing happened to me for our last trip, but with delta airlines. It was the most annoying thing. It was a little different because I could still call ahead and reserve my seat choices, but by the time I realized I had been cancelled, our choice seats (up front) were all taken, and we were way in back. It's super annoying, I can feel for you....good luck!

Re: Lost our seats on return flight??

I just wanted to second that they won't separate you.

DS5 and I got assigned seats that were apart for some reason or another. I tried to make them let us keep them, hoping for a nice relaxing flight for me, but they wouldn't let us.

That's a pretty lousy system then. I don't blame you for being annoyed. Never had that happen myself, but I'd be angry too.

Re: Lost our seats on return flight??

Part of the reason I love Southwest is that I have a baby and we get to board first.... But even when you dont get to board first you have the chance to preboard online and get a chance to board first- I love it!

Your right, it doesn't make sense that you could choose it before and not now!

Hope you're able to check in early and get the seat you want!

I do hope they won't break you up. Sometimes they can make the flight the worst part of any trip.

Re: Lost our seats on return flight??

they dont have a first class do they? If they did you could complain enough to possibly be bumped up? That was how we ended up flying first when coming home from Mardi Gras!

I think you'll be fine in the end. Airlines seem to be confused all the time.

Re: Lost our seats on return flight??

All's well that ends well.

DH called Northworst today and used his big boy voice. They assigned us new seats. 'Course they had to boot someone out of theirs because the flight was full. So now someone else is going to be angry! I told him maybe we should have waited and maybe we'd get first class. But those seats are full, too. No wonder they're bankrupt.

So true...

We had to make an emergency change to a flight in 2003 - had to come home early due to a death in the family. They were very accomodating - to the point of asking other passengers to relocate so we could all sit together. I am glad it worked out in the end.
