air fare out of chicago

I am watching fares regularly for flights of of chicago . I live 3 hrs from chicago but the iar fare from the surronding airports want 50.00 a head more to fly with them and then they typically land in Chicago for a 1 stop .

Anyhow , does anyone know if the flights from chicago ( any airline) will drop below 200.00 prefer non stop with 4 kids .
I saw you can get advance tickets for like 189.00 ( not including tax etc)

I have not shopped air fare in 6 years so , I am just wondering is this the lowest it gets for a Flight in December ( Xmas week to be exact)???

Thanks for any help on this

I know I need to shop around all the time but kinda trying to get a idea if 200.00 is the typical bottom line for a flight from chicago to orlando non stop

Re: air fare out of chicago

I am with you. I can fly out of Detroit or Chicago or even a local little airport.
I like to fly out of bigger airports because of the increased choices I can make. The bad part is that most airlines don't post their schedules for my trip yet. And even if I can find a fare, I don't want to grab it for fear that I am not getting a good deal.

I am waiting along with you to hear what people know

Re: air fare out of chicago

I hate waiting but , on the other hand if I can save some $$$$ its worth it.

Guess we play the waiting game for now.

I am with you the biger airports have more options. lat time we traveled form a airport thats 20 minnutes away it was a mess. we should of been landing in Orlando at 4pm, we got in Orlando at 1am the next morning! Mears was done for the night. Our luggage was still in Chicago and when we got it it was damamged! We flew in March ( no snow) and still problems.
My Dh and I agreed no AA this time last time was a flop. Its been a while but it was bad enough we have AA phobia now

Might I suggest you download Southwest's "Ding" program onto your computer. It will show a little envelope on it's icon when they have new specials going on. They usually give you so many hours to book. They have some great deals at times.

I do have the Ding. But they are not showing schedules for November yet.
So, the waiting game is on.
Also I am wondering if the fares are tied to places like WDW. We will be traveling during Disney's "regular" season. Why should the airlines discount much? Ya know what I mean?

Re: air fare out of chicago

I know what you mean , when we go teh week of Xmas I can hardly think the pirce will be rock bottom. Ihave that DING thing now as well like you said no sign of air fare for us soon.

I also watch kayak.com. Is it normal to find air fare cheaper on line vs if I call a travel agent to get me air fare?

I didn't think about kayak.com. I don't know how to get the best deal. I have booked only one flight to Europe via the internet before. Usually I let an agent book trips for me. I am going nuts and I think that I might give up. Somebody stop meeeeeee.

Do you have Spirit.com on your radar? They have some very low fares.

Re: air fare out of chicago

Thats a good thought! I think I looked them up 1 time and that was it, I have looked up soooo many of them regularly that I forget to go back to one that looked like it may have a good price.

I do know a friend of mine booked her air fare late in the year for the trip they took last Dec. 26th- Jan. 2nd. they paid sit down for this one.... $350.00 a ticket and they bought 5 tickets at that- eeek. they said the air fare was more then the resort stay they had for the week at POR.

Thats why I figure 200.00 is a bargin FOR NOW. I think I will watch the prices over the month of Mar. and if I don't see anything better then 200.00 a ticket( god willing they are still only 200.00) I will bite the bullet and get them , atleast I know I will not of paid 350.00, and I need 6 tickets at that.

If I hear of a good deal I will post it on here ;)

Actually I have seen fares as low as $89.00 from Detroit to Orlando. I am going to wait until I am down to 180 days before arrival and I won't go crazy before then.
Why don't you sign up with Spirit they'll send you emails.

Just sit tight and wait a while longer. Don't make yourself nuts

This doesn't apply to you so much...but believe or not we paid $300 per ticket for 5. Our closest big airport is about 3 hours away and although it was about $35 more per ticket I thought it was worth it.

It started at $375 and I checked kayak.com, cheaptickets.com and travelocity.com and when I found a fee I was willing to pay I went directly to that airline website...the same flight was then a few bucks cheaper yet.

yes I set up the ding , wish I could see a SW history or air fare for when we are going to see what I may be able to anticipate.

Oh gosh I hope I get it less then 300.00 a ticket Dh will pass out otherwise.

Not just for you. It is a big deal. I wish DH was still working for the Coast Guard . He had hundreds of thousands of miles saved up every year. He flew commercial every second week, most times to either Japan, Hawaii, Alaska or Europe and was out of town about 270 days a year. The miles piled up really fast

Re: air fare out of chicago

We've been able to get $49 each way per person from Midway to Orlando the last 3 times we've gone on SWA, but it's been either Sept. or early Dec.
This year we're going first week of June & really thinking about driving.
We;ve set a limit of $600 for the 4 of us. If we can't find it at that or lower, we hit the road. We can drive it for under that!
