Icon5 Do you get travel insurance?

We are more then likely traveling out of CHicago at Xmas. I have not purchsed travel insurance yet , Mouseketrips said they did not recommend it only because the cost for its expensive.

I am not even really sure what it covers when you get it anyhow ? I hate to be in Chicago and not leave and pay for a room and anytickets for a day i can not use.

Re: Do you get travel insurance?

I have never purchased travel insurance because of the cost, and so far have been lucky that nothing significant has caused me to cancel a planned trip. May be if I plan that trip of a life time that cost a bundle, well then I might break down and buy it.

Re: Do you get travel insurance?

I have travel insurance on my Disney Package and my flights. I only got them on the flights because it was $12. I wouldn't have paid more. The travel insurance through disney I think is a good deal as well, so I went for it. Mousketrips is correct however, most travel insurance is extremely expensive and not really worth it. You can get independent travel insurance cheaper. Do a google search and you will see many different companies offering you this insurance way cheaper.

Re: Do you get travel insurance?

Well, just some food for thought...

When DH and I went on our honeymoon (Disneyland, Monterey, Big Sur, Carmel, and SoCal) we BOTH got really sick with strep throat. I was between insurances and Travel Guard LITERALLY reimbursed us instantly for med fees, doctor, prescriptions, etc.

Travel Guard also covered me FULLY when the LCD screen on my digi cam was broken during inspection in my checked luggage.

On our bigger trips we usually get travel insurance... just going to WDW I never have honestly. My only concern with WDW is going tduring hurricane season and losing plane ticket expenses, etc....

I also don't understand why someone would tell you it was so expensive? For our 10 day honeymoon it cost us a TOTAL of $180 to cover us both, for EVERYTHING (trip cancellation, sickness, lost/stolen/delayed luggage, etc...)

Re: Do you get travel insurance?

I also used travel guard for this trip that I just planned. I must mention that I have never bought travel insurance before, but did this time because like wish said, it's hurricanne season and it's really a long trip for us (9 days). Try looking into travel guard.

Wish -
I am glad to hear that travel guard is a good comapny. I had no clue when I got them..lol

Re: Do you get travel insurance?

I usually buy travel insurance. Mainly for the cost of canceling. 2 years ago I had surgery and treatments unexpectedly and for that reason I realize you never know what is going to happen.

Re: Do you get travel insurance?

I've never bought travel insurance but we normally don't book a package so we can cancel as late as 5 days out and we fly SWA so we can always cancel and use the money any time in the next year. I think if I paid more than $120 each for our flights or booked a package I would have to think about it.

well I have a package booked -DDP, moderate resort room POR, hopper passes for 6 of us one of which is a baby so there is no charge for her on the trip.then I need to get a the airfare for 6 of us .

We are looking at current cost of trip with estimated airfare in there 4500.00( air, room, food, tickets). I guess I usually don't have great luck so thats why I am not sure what to do

Look into travel guard or something similar. That's a lot of money to gamble with. You never know what could happen.

Re: Do you get travel insurance?

Wow, I just priced insurance and for the 4 of us it would be right around $ 300.00. That's too much for my pocket.

I haven't ever had travel insurance. So now I hope I didn't jinx myself into needing it

I know it is expensive I priced it and I got a total of 292.00. they had others that were cheaper but they did not look as good.

thats why I asked about if anyone gets it. Now if I get it I won't need it and if i don't i could windup kicking myself.

Well maybe I should hope we we have weather this Xmas like last Xmas. we never got snow here until mid January.

Re: Do you get travel insurance?

I have used the website insuremytrip.com for several expensive trips, and I have been pleased with the ability to compare quotes, benefits, etc. There is a huge price difference between companies.

Re: Do you get travel insurance?

I have always gotten travel insurance and always will get travel insurance. I worked in the travel industry and remember having to tell people that they just lost $3000.00 + on trips because their parent just got sick and now they can't travel and they didn't pay the little extra for the insurance.

This last time we went and it wasn't much for the insurance both cancelation and medical. I think it was about $180 for the trip and $30 for medical. Now we didn't book the Disney insurance our agent got if for us through their company and it was much cheaper.

Re: Do you get travel insurance?

Yep, we buy Travel Guard every time. I think our upcoming trip was $27 for insurance...for 4 of us for 5 nights at Hilton Head. We're driving, so we didn't have to pay extra for flight insurance....can't beat $27 tho!!
