Icon5 what to do buy 2 one way tickets or a round trip one?

Is it ever cheaper to get 2 one way tickets instead of a round trip ticket?

the travel times look better but can you save any money ever? this is probably a crazy question but I was wondering if any of you ever do this???

I thought of getting my one way ticket there and then watch the fares and get one coming back( though I would rather not leave ).

Hey Good Point!

Plus , we can start paying it off while we shop for the next set and if I don't find any we could just stay longer(JK)

Go with whatever is cheaper. We've even flown down on USAir and came home on SWA.

We did 1 way tickets once with South West as it was cheaper than buying round trip. The down side to buying 1 way tickets is that it is a red flag for the airlines, and you are more prone to a full search at airport security.

Full search meaning what? The rason I ask is someone I know went someplace and she told me they did a body cavity search on her then 1 year old dd. I am not sure if it was a 1 way ticket or not but I could not believe what I was hearing

One way costs more depending on the airline. I would price them both ways and then decide. With spirit, it's WAY more money to do a one-way ticket.

Re: what to do buy 2 one way tickets or a round trip one?

I have found that with Southwest it is easier to book one way flights to save money. If you book them now for x dollars each way and they "Ding" them for less you can get a credit for the difference that is good for one year. It is much easier to do if you have one way flights instead of a round trip because sometimes the Ding fare is only available for one of the flights. You have to cancel the existing reservation and make a new one so again it is easier to do with only one flight to worry about instead of two. Also make sure that there are enough seats available for your group before you cancel and rebook.

Plus with the credit it gives you another reason to have to come back to Disney :)

WOW I did not know you can get a credit if it ends up going on Ding . I am loking at SW airlines as well as all the others out there accept Spirit so far they don't fly from a airport around me to Orlando.
Thanks for the info./tip on this. guess I just need to look at both 1 way and round trip to see were the deal is at.

I do have a question though on the seating for SW , I see they don't give assigned seats so how do you know if you actually have a seat on teh flight you plan on??????????

Just check in on-line 24 hrs. in advance to get your boarding pass. The sooner you book, the better boarding preference you'll get. If you get "A" boarding then you're first on the plane to pick your seats, "B" second to pick your seats and then "C" is last. So if you have a special seat preference you want you're best to get A or B. On the way down we got C and someone was nice enough to trade w/ us so both our boys could have window seats. On the way home we had A and didn't have to worry about it. Another thing is that people actually line up at the gate and sit on the floor an hour prior to boarding. But we got $59 seats so I'm not complaining!!!!

Also if you are traveling with children 4 or younger you get to pre board. Which makes it easier if you have a seat kicker like mine. DH or I get to spend most of our flight with 2 little feet kicking our seat. Better us than some poor stranger ;)

That was my big concern , I was thinknig not to go with SW if i got a B or C boarding pass my 2 year old maybe kick happy. . So do they say ok people who have B boarding passes and kids under 4 board and then the rest of you whohave B board next or what? Do B and C boards board with teh A boarders?

Re: what to do buy 2 one way tickets or a round trip one?

There is a preboarding area where you line up to board. No matter what letter boarding pass you have you get in that line and are allowed to board first because of the children under 4. When you enter the Southwest terminals you will see that at each boarding gate they have signs for A B C and preboarding. You can get in line on arrival or just hang out until they announce for preboarding and then get at the end of the preboarding line.
