Calling all New Yorkers...

We are flying out of Laguardia in May and I am a bit confused about the airport parking. When you fly out of LGA where do you park?

I can tell you where NOT to park! I was waved by an employee into the taxi lot! Once you bear left there, there's no going back! You can't imagine how hard it was to convince the thirty or so cabs in front of me that I couldn't miss my plane!

Since we moved south over two years ago, I haven't been to LAG since. The long term lot fills up, so I'd check into off-site parking.

Re: Calling all New Yorkers...

You would park at LONG TERM PARKING at the airport. Or you can always park off site at a long term parking lot as well.

Try finding their website...there is sure to be info on there!

(I always take a cab when I go...it's 15 minutes from my house!)

Wish i could help you, but i'm an Upstate New Yorker. I have my own problems flying out of Albany

I've never had to get to the city to leave for any trip but once we had to fly to Florida for a Mexican Cruise.

Not quite the same, I lived in North Jersey and used Newark frequently. I always had someone take me and pick me up. Living in South Florida, when we go for a week, we'll use a car service. I only park overnight/weekends at Fort Lauderdale. I'd strongly recommend you get a ride and leave the car at home, unless for some reason, you'll feel safer with it at the airport.

Re: Calling all New Yorkers...

We always park at Avistar at LGA - it's sort of behind the Marriott which is across from the airport. You HAVE to make a reservation though because they fill up all the time. Their service is great, courteous drivers who have gotten us to our flights at times when we were cutting it really close!

Re: Calling all New Yorkers...

I always fly Southwest out of Islip and we never have a problem parking. In fact the last few times we parked in the far lot and a bus came right to our car to get us (2minute bus ride). The bags went from the trunk into the bus and then we were dropped off at the curb. This made it very easy with the 2 carseats and strollers. When we get back - my H takes the bus to get the car while I gather the bags - he meets me at the curb and off we go.

Re: Calling all New Yorkers...

LGA is an expensive place to park! Are you sure you don't want to taxi/limo in and out? For us, it actually works out pretty cheaply!

Re: Calling all New Yorkers...

Unfortunately, LGA doesn't have their own long-term parking. You can utilize the hourly parking and pay an exorbitant rate though. What I usually use is any one of the rental car lots.

Re: Calling all New Yorkers...

I'm going to look into this Avistar company. It all seems really convenient.

Re: Calling all New Yorkers...

If Avistar isn't available, try the lot at the National Rental car place - we had to use them in a pinch once or twice and had good luck too. It's also all indoor parking which is always nice in the winter!

We also belong to Avistar's Preferred whatevertheycallitmemberthingie - not sure if you can sign up online or something. Basically they just automatically charge your card and you can get off the bus and right into your car without having to go in and wait in line to pay...
