price of plane tickets...holy cow!!

I paid 288.50 per ticket rt, from Traverse City, Mich to orlando. I no sooner bought them and the price jumped up to 330.00. then yesterday I got a farewatcher email saying that the price went down to 231.00 so today I checked northwest and travelocitys web sites and the tickets are now 543.00. would anyone actually pay that much for airline tickets?? not me. Im glad I bought mine when I did.

How many hops is it from Traverse City? Do you fly to Detroit, Grand Rapids, Milwaukee or somewhere else first?

Re

Are you from the Northern Michigan area? I live in Petoskey and drive to Traverse City, we have one layover in Detroit and then from there go straight to orlando. Its not to bad of a trip.

No, I live in Holland. I wasn't sure if the TC airport was large enough to get direct flights or not. We fly out of Grand Rapids and have to hop through Detroit or Cincinnati most times.

Bellaire

One of the doctors that I work with lives in bellaire and travels all the way up here to work. I have never been there but I hear it is a nice little town. Isnt there a big ski hill there?

How far in advance should you purchase tickets? I've been looking on Expedia and they had round trip tickets for $200.00 (flying out out Pittsburgh) so I don't know if I should hop on that deal or just wait until a closer time before we leave (taking a December 2003 trip) and get them.

I would take that price, but thats just my opinion. I heard that the price of tickets is going to jump up....alot. I paid 280 rt from Traverse City to Orlando with one layover in Detroit.

you may want to look on hotwire.com you can get some good deals sometime. the only bad thing is you don't know what airline or what times until you pay. but they do you the major airlines.
