Airline prices going down?

Ok, a little background here first. We haven't booked our Oct 5-11 or 12th WDW trip yet but we ARE going (just waiting for the financial approval from DH). I've been keeping an eye on flight prices to get an idea of a budget so I can tell DH what to expect (he's never been to WDW). It seems that Midwest is the cheapest from Kansas City to Orlando. It started at about $500 roundtrip for 2 when I first started checking a few months ago. It's now down to $399 including all taxes and fees! Great flight times, depart 9am from KC, arrive in Orlando at 12:30, leave Orlando at 7pm on our last day. So, my question is, will this decreasing price trend continue and I should wait to book or will I be kicking myself for waiting and possibly increasing my cost?

Re: Airline prices going down?

You better grab that flight now...that is not going to get much cheaper than that. you could possibly get lucky with something super cheaper very close to october, but you also have a chance of paying much more than that too...buying airfare is like playing poker....grab em now.

Re: Airline prices going down?

I waited last year because I thought I could find a better deal and in the long run I wasted $350.00 because I didnt grab them. Worse case maybe if it goes down you can call and ask for credit for a future trip.

Re: Airline prices going down?

That's a really good fare, especially for Midwest. We usually take SWA out of MCI and pay $99 to $75. In Jan. we were lucky enough to catch a $49 fare.

With Midwest at least you'll have an assigned seat and don't have to do the whole A B C thing.

Re: Airline prices going down?

OMG! I checked SWA because I've flown them before for $99 each way and that was good. From Kansas City to Orlando roundtrip for 2 right now it's $700!!! It's about $175 each way! Sheesh!

Ok, so, it sounds like I need to talk DH into booking now. Hmm...he just did bills last night....that's always scary. Maybe I'll give it a few days until he forgets about our Discover bill.....hehe

Are there any cool incentives for Disney Visa cardholders? That might be a way to get him to book quicker (the trip in general) since we have one. :)

Thanks for your help!

check mousesavers.com, but I don't think that anything has come out for the month of october yet. You probally won't see anything until July or that's around when I saw discounts last year for that month. You can book it now and always apply any discounts later. I wouldn't wait much longer. Just book it and tell him after.

Re: Airline prices going down?

I've been checking prices for months from PITTSBURGH to ORLANDO. Most flights have been around $220-$250 RT

Saturday...Airtran put out a special for $59 one way! (about $136 RT)

I hate to wait too...but sometimes it worth holding out. If you see a price that good...jump on it! I check almost every day and can usually see a trend when one raises...the rest do. The same with the sales. Southwest is usually first...but NOT this time. I usually check right with the airline directly instead of the travel sites like Expedia, Travelocity, etc. They sometimes (the airline) have better deals.

Good Luck!

Re: Airline prices going down?

I would also grab them. I got our flights a little earlier then I wanted, but they ended up being $379! I got them at $300 each. Good luck with DH. Make sure you tell him the alternative to all the money you may save by getting them now.

Re: Airline prices going down?

In my marriage, it's easier to ask permission than it is to ask forgiveness (backwards)! He rarely tells me no. He's just been putting off booking because we're getting ready to trade cars as well and we just paid off the rest of our wedding. We're going to start our family this fall too which means I'll stop working next summer and he wants to have a cushion so we've been trying to save a good chunck before we book. Phew!! We have a lot going on!! LOL Hopefully I can talk fast enough! ;)

tell him that you can start the family at WDW - what a memory! oops, family site - sorry!!

hey - this is a last hurrah for a little bit (or so you can tell him) if you are starting a family - you may not get back there for a while. that's a good reason to go, right?!

grab that deal - sounds great!

This is very true. I would get it if its in your budget. I always say to myself for example well I only want to spend X amount and if its in that X amount I will go for it. Good luck

Re: Airline prices going down?

Tara- I was kidding..lol I am just not use to asking that's all...I just do and tell later..lol I am also not married, so that a big difference..lol

try kayak.com. It will give you the lowest prices and search all airlines and their sites. It's always cheaper to go to the airline's website. I have never seen a price on expedia or hotwire that I couldn't beat by going to the actual carrier. You could also do priceline and name your own price, but you don't know what times your flight would be until AFTER you pay...heck with that. I would rather pay more and pick.
