Give me your opinions of Delta.

I know every airline is going to have good and bad reviews and none of them are perfect. We have always flown American but to get the flights we want we might have to go with Delta next time. I was just wondering what everyones opinion of them was.

Re: Give me your opinions of Delta.

One thing I like about Delta is you get assigned seats.. no worries about logging in 24 hrs in advance like we do with SW. In our part of the country Delta has a HUGE HUB. That means we can travel absolutely ANYWHERE from this hub. For that reason.. the prices are SKY HIGH... no pun intended!!
We have done research in the past and found that their safety record is very good. We try not to fly with them because they are so expensive. Otherwise it would be more covenient for us to fly with Delta. As it is now, we have to drive 1 1/2 hrs to get to an airport that offers SW flights...

Re: Give me your opinions of Delta.

I've had some seriously mixed experiences with Delta. Pricewise, they can be worth keeping an eye on because their sale rates can be very favorable. I used to travel out of their Atlanta hub and occasionally got some excellent deals. However, if price is your primary consideration, chances are that depending on where you're travelling to/from, another carrier will be able to get you there cheaper.

I've had both the best and the worst customer service from Delta. Two years ago, after returning to the States after a month here on the island, I had a changed itinerary, a late flight from Honolulu, and a mess trying to get back to Atlanta without being hopscotched across the country in the process. The Delta ticket agents I dealt with at LAX bent over backwards to help me. That was one of the best. I won't go into the worst, because we've all got travel horror stories, but there were a couple of times when I was appalled at what passed for service.

The assigned seating is a big plus, the planes I've flown on have always been clean, and the flight attendants are generally courteous and helpful. Barring bad weather (which affected all flights, not just theirs), they've also always gotten me where I was going on time.

Re: Give me your opinions of Delta.

Thanks everyone for your replies. It has made me feel a little bit better. I know you all probably think I am crazy if you look below at my countdown but my DH told me last night when we go back instead of staying for 6 days we can now go for 9!!!!! I could not sleep last night I was so excited so I started checking air schedules and yes I know a lot will change in that amount of time but I am just getting an idea so I will know what to expect. I want to get on the earlies flight that leaves out of our airport (Wichita, KS) and get us there the fastest because we want to be able to go to a park on the day we arrive. I know I need to calm down and wait at least two years before really studing this but I can't help it..........I am addicted to Disney planning.

Re: Give me your opinions of Delta.

I have been banned from flying Delta ever since they refused to serve a hot tea to my DW (yes my DW has a tea problem). That was over 15 years ago.

Re: Give me your opinions of Delta.

When I lived in Utah, I flew Delta all the time. They were the cheapest by far! I have never had any problems with them at all. No flight changes, no schedule changes, no lost baggage. I even flew several times alone with DS, who was between 2 and 3 at the time and they were all a breeze too. I love the assigned seating, makes everything easy.
Now that we live close to DFW, I haven't found Delta to be the #1 choice, price-wise, but they're usually so close and their flight times are sometimes better, so they'd be my choice over 1/2 the time. Now it just depends on where I'm going! For example, they don't fly to Huntsville, AL, so I have to go American.
Bottom line: I have absolutely no problem with Delta and if they're flights fit my schedule better even though it may cost me slightly more, I'll go with them.

Re: Give me your opinions of Delta.

We used to fly US Air exclusively. However due to price hikes and schedule changes, we've flown Delta the last 3x. We've had very positive experiences. We've had to change planes in Atlanta, which can be daunting, however we make sure we have enough time for the connection.

We've experienced timely, on time flights, very, very nice people and safe flights. And on some larger planes they have video feeds with loads of choices. Some free, some pay/view. We'll continue to fly Delta.

Re: Give me your opinions of Delta.

My only complaint with Delta is the Atlanta hub, it's massive. Several times Delta has sent me to a gate to change plans, and guess what, wrong gate. So you have to sprint from terminal A to termincal C to catch your plan. Oh well. But Delta hasn't lost must luggage like US Air.

Re: Give me your opinions of Delta.

Delta was my carrier of choice until Southwest entered our market with non stops to MCO and great fares. Other than the stupid A-B-C boarding (which I have to admit works) I can't complain about Southwest.

Have friends (& now a sister) working for Delta. If Delta had a nonstop to MCO I'd use them in a heart beat.

Re: Give me your opinions of Delta.

Delta has changed flights on me one too many times. I'm not thrilled with their customer service either. They would be one of my last choices for a flight.

Re: Give me your opinions of Delta.

We've been using Delta since 2003! The only problem we've ever had was last year on our return flight from Orlando, one of our pieces of luggage never made it on to the plane!

But they hand delivered it to our home later that evening and were very nice and apologetic about the incident! They handled it very well!

All in all, the flights are comfortable and the attendants are very warm and friendly! So we're pretty satisfied with them!

Re: Give me your opinions of Delta.

We try to pack as light as possible and not check luggage. I really don't trust any of the airlines NOT to lose luggage. But it's just my wife and I, so it's easier than traveling with kids.
