flying with a cake

Is this possible? We'll be visiting WDW for our 1st anniversary and I really wanted to be all traditional and bring the top tier of our wedding cake with us. But, we're flying. Will they allow food items on? I'm thinking not, but I thought I'd ask. You all are such a wealth of info!

Huh, that's one I've never heard before.

I am not really sure but I really am interested to hear answers to this one. Do you think it would get messed up?

i don't think they will - maybe it can be shipped - with dry ice and all - and have the resort put it in the fridge for you? maybe worth a try!

Something tells me that even if the airline allowed you to bring the cake onto the plane (most likely in the cargo hold), it would probably get ruined. It doesn't sound like such a good idea...

Re: flying with a cake

You should be able to carry it on.
They only thing that they won't let you bring threw security are liquids...

But I do advised that you go onto the TSA website... tsa.org and double check, you can send them an email and ask them if it will be able to be carried on.

Re: flying with a cake

Oh, if I took it with me, I'd definitely carry it on! No way I'd want to risk messing it up! Also, it's frozen and has been since Oct 7 so the icing won't smear or anything like that. I just didn't know if it was allowed on the plane! I'll go check out the tsa website. I hadn't thought of that. If I can't take it with, I may ask Disney when I book my trip about having a top tier made there. But, the thought of that bill makes me sick to my stomach. LOL

Re: flying with a cake

i think you can take it on. i watched a show in the food network about this professional cake contest. this one guy brought the top layer of his cake al; the way from india on the plane...as carry on. i even think he had a relative lugging on the 2middle and bottom layers, along with some crazy, intricut lace work (made of icing).

you will probably have to put it through the xray machine so they can be sure you don't have a bomb or anything hdden in the cake!! LOL

let us know what you find out for sure!!

Re: flying with a cake

We just flew last week, and DH brought a pastry box of "Black & White's" with hiim on the plane, and they didn't give him a problem at all. I think it would be fine.

Re: flying with a cake

Alright, TSA emailed me back. I can bring it! It just has to be properly sealed. I think that since it's saran-wrapped, then foiled, saraned and foiled again, and then in a box with saran already, I'll be ok. ;) LOL YAY!

Congrads.

It would not make it either onboard through security or as cargo. (You COULD ship it as cargo but I'd hate to see it upon arrival.) You can't carry ANY food or drink through security with exception of limited amount of baby food.

Save the real cake for home. Disney is wonderful about providing special deserts. We just went on cruise where we celebrated our 28th and the waitstaff surprised us at dinner with a cake.

that's fantastic!!

i am so happy for you that you get to maintain a part of 1st year anniversary tradition that means alot.

my DH shared our top layer of our wedding cake with our entire wedding party in our 1st home together. we closed on the house 4 days before our anniversary and had (wanted) to paint the entire inside before the party. it was alot of work, but a precious memory. (the painting of the house...and the party!)

happy anniversary.

.
that is what thought also then again, I then wondered if the same rules applied to US citizens as does to UK citizens. I know we are not allowed to bring any foods in to the US but wasn't sure if the same rules applied for yourselves. I personally think it is a lovely idea but wouldn't bother with the hassle and would get Disney to arrange something and save the real cake until I got home and continued the celebrations then!
hope whatever you decide works out for you though x

So, I can't take a CANDY bar through security but you can take cake wrapped in foil. And THESE people are in CHARGE of security?!?!?!?

Despite what TSA may have emailed you, like the IRS, you can't always count on what they tell you. What happens if you get to security and show them the email and they still say no? Are you going to have to decide on surrendering the cake or skipping the trip?

They change the rules almost DAILY.
