car rentals.

Iwas just pricing car rentals for next august. Every site I checked was sold out for the week I wanted....8/24- 8/30. Isn't that weird...almost a year in advance? Should I change my vacation dates or is it just to far to book a rental car? Anyone?

Re: car rentals.

Sometimes I find glitches using the online ressie system. That week should not be sold out. I would call or check another company to see what's up.

just call the rent company. i had that problem 2006. i called dollar and budget direct and got what i wanted.

you might get a bit of discount on line but sometimes talking to a human gets you the best package and you can clarify what your getting and what your paying.

all the best

Re: car rentals.

Dana, I think the other replies are correct. We've never had a problem renting a car during that time period. I would even wait a week and give it another try on-line. Sounds like a glitch in reservation systems.

Re: car rentals.

I'll wait till next week or Sunday and try again. I am unable to even price airfare at this point because it's to far away. I was thinking maybe this was the case with the rentals too. Just trying to get a total dollar amount needed for this trip so I can start to save and budget my money. With all the things going on this year (Dd's graduation and confirmation...not to mention xmas...dd's birthday etc) I am going to have to start saving my pennies now. Thanks for the replies. I'll let you know how I make out.

It has to be a glitch. Maybe they are not booking out that far yet.

I think it may just be to far. I tried orbitz and several other travel sites like hotwire and they are all closing that week off for prices...the problem is that instead of saying "its to far away or something of the like" they are saying "booked" for that time frame...weird huh?

We got the same response from Disney a month ago when trying to book for Dec. 2008 WL. They kept saying we are BOOKED SOLID. We were like no way you are totally booked this far in advance. We just kept calling and calling. Finally it opened up.

Dana.. I think that it is too far in advance. I was looking for the end of July and called Alamo they told me that they cant book out that far yet. I doubt every single place is really booked and if so I wouldnt be going to WDW at that time

Hey Dana I just had to call Dollar rental in ref to our rental car for next week and I asked them about this for you and they said that it is too far out for them to give prices over the internet or the phone. She said that their site just shows up with no vehicles available for the date that you requested. She claimed to try about 6-7 months out and you should be OK with being able to get a price. Also in case you are thinking or are going to use dollar the "KISS2" code still works and its a great savings with them. Its supp a code that travel agents use but hey it works for all of us.

Thanks! I was able to get one price through dollar getting a rental at their DTD location after reading packerbeth's trip report. $651 for monday-friday...I fell off the chair. I am certain that it's just to far off. the higest quote for a 9 day rental last trip was only $300..lol

Re: car rentals.

I wouldn't wait until 6-7 months out. Most ressies in the travel industry are 11 months out (there's an exact # in days, but I forget what it is). As soon as you can book your airfare, you should be able to book your car too.

We had the same trouble for booking for 2008. It was a computer problem I think cause I went on the next day and it said that there were rooms available again. Scared DH though, now hes booking the trip next month instead of waiting until January.

Re: car rentals.

It looks like you got your question answered. I usually book about 11 months out and then keep checking and checking using different coupon/discount codes. A few trips ago, I ended up shaving 200 off the price of our rental by applying discount codes that came out much later.

Hey, this could be a chance to save $$$! I wonder if it gives you time to sign up for membership in their programs... we have a membership at National, and it gives us a discount, sometimes an automatic upgrade, and speedy check-in and drop-off.

Once, I had reserved a mid-size car, at a discounted rate. We got there so happy to have the cheap rate, and then they said we could have a luxuty car for the same price! Wow... we drove around WDW in this gigantic boat of a car. It sucked the gas down like mad, but it was such a hoot! A far cry form driving in NJ in my creepy station wagon!
