that gets back to the reasons I wont eat at Denny's and am very nice to the servers in smaller places.... there are always ways to make your job more interesting when the pay sucks!

Put it this way... If im getting FREE airfare to whereever I want to go Im going do my job with a smile on my face.. If they dont like the job THEY signed up for go to Mcdonalds!! They are ALWAYS hiring!! LOL.. Im gonna think twice before I check my bags!!

If only it were possible for us to drive- we have had first hand experience of poor baggage handling- I guess $7.50 is very menial, however, no one is forced to do that job.

Must be the Pollyanna in me... for the other side of the fence...
150 bags in 30 minutes! at 7.50/hour is awesome and not something most of us would do. I am amazed at what the airlines achieve these days. Many of us have had to RUN to the other side of the terminal to get a connecting flight and amazingly, the bags have made it as well... unloaded, sorted, across the tarmac, reloaded... and arrived as scheduled! In this age of moving "faster" we can miss how amazing it is that often the bags are on the carousel in the time it takes to walk to the baggage carousel. We all have horror stories, I'm sure (being stuck in Boston during a storm while the marathon was on, 2 hours out of town with an insane taxi driver for a hotel sleep of 2 hours followed by another cancelled fight...  , no food, no compensation and "We will certainly get you home asap, we have a seat for you first thing Wednesday" 2 days from now are you nuts!)But over all my experience has been more good than bad, we arrived only slightly delayed after the hurricane in Orlando in 2004 with rain water pouring in the terminal, likewise only 4 hours delayed just after the 2003 North Eastern seaboard "blackout", only 3 hours delayed when the sand storm in Texas rerouted us to Tulsa along with hundreds of others, people and luggage all over the place. Some staff need a personality transplant, for sure, but most are working hard and not appreciated. And yes, when the back starts to go it's time to move on.

I would love to be able to travel with only a carryon. Maybe someday. But we've never had any problems with our luggage. But I've seen some strange things come down the conveyor belt at the airport. One time there was a cardboard box with tape all over it (not enough though) with a loose flap and clothing spilling out. It was slowly going around the luggage carousel. I felt bad for that person because his clothes were all over the place.

I did see a poor woman walking through an airport hand firmly clasping the handle of a suitcase as you would expect... but the case was open... dragging on the ground... and totally empty... she was not a happy camper
