Re: Driving from NE PA to WDW in May

I can help with Georgia directions... since that is where I live... How did you get lost?

The trick is to get on I-75 south and stay on it... no bypass around Atlanta... It takes too long...

Re: Driving from NE PA to WDW in May

We drove from Scranton last July to WDW and it took about 17hrs. We left at 5:30a.m. and arrived in Oralando around 10:30. It seemed like the perfect time of the day to leave because we hit no traffic-it was a Sunday. We packed a picnic for lunch and ate in a rest area right when we got in N. Carolina. I think it was there welcome center. We also had to stop at a Walmart along the way becasue DH frogot to bring new batteries so that must have taken a good 20 minutes. For dinner we had drive through (not the greatest) but it was fast.

The most valuable book I bought was Drive I-95. I found it at Boarders in Scranton. It gives you every resturant, shop, and everything else under the sun at every exit you will pass on 95. Well worth the $20.00 but I am sure you can find a used one on the internet somewhere. I would give you my copy but we are driving again this summer.

Also, the ride down seems so much eaiser. We were all excited to get there and watched Disney movies along the way. The ride home I would suggest staying somewhere overnight. It just seemed like FOR-EV-ER.

I hope all this info helps. Have fun!

I will have to tell DH about the Drive I-95 book. He'll pick one up for us to read.

We are looking forward to the drive down, but not the drive back. I guess we will see how it goes on the way down and decide whether to stay overnight on the way back.

Thanks,
Kim

The drive down is always more exciting however since the parks are go go go, we don't seem to mind the forced rest in the car. Everyone seems to catch up on their sleep.

You live in Scranton, eh? I was just there last week visiting my friend's family in the hills section. It was a little scary driving up and down those streets with all the snow and ice. Beautiful place though.
Snapped a picture of the Scranton Welcomes You sign from the show.

We've traveled by plane, car, and Auto Train. While it was long, traveling by car was the least stressful. We were reasonably in charge of our destiny while driving - we could stop when and where we liked.

You can't beat flying - we take the 7AM flight out of PHL and you are in WDW deciding whether you want a late breakfast or early lunch.

The Auto Train was an experience and we all enjoyed it. We do feel a little cooped up by the AM - but we would absolutely do it again. (We did get a family bedroom on the train).

I lost the link, but there is a pretty good website for folks traveling on I95. It lists each exit and the amenities at the stops.

Always expect to hit traffic in Charlotte. I live there. People can't drive in Charlotte, especially during rush hour.

Scranton, "home of the office" The hill section is a little scarry with the snow, steep hills and they don't seem to plow very good. I know the hill section well-I went to college at the University of Scranton. I wish I knew you were comming to town I would have given you the 5 cent tour to print and take with you. I am glad to hear that your visit went well and you think Scranton is pretty. Its a great place to raise a family and its soooooo close to NYC and Phili.

I knew someone here was in Scranton for the convention. Everytime I go out of town and tell someone where I am from-the office follows me. Belevie it or not, many people here do not watch the show. I beleive they are having another con this year-hope you can make it.

Knock on wood but I did not hit ANY traffic anywhere on our trip down last year nor on the way back. We left at 5:30a.m. on a Sunday morning and drove straight though. I guess we had great luck and hit every spot at the right time. The trip home we left on a Monday at 9:00a.m.
