Re: Renting a Car in Disney? Yes or No?

LOVE the freedom of being chauffeured around by Disney transportation. When we drive to Disney, the car stays parked from the first day until it's time to go home. I guess it's what your priority is. Around here at home, driving is very stressful, as roads are crowded 24/7, and the personality of this area is agressive, so not having to worry about driving is just an added bonus to my vacation.

I was thinking the same thing! If I'm staying on Disney property, then I have no reason to rent a car. Disney makes it so convenient to go from place to place without a car and it's much less of a hassle. It's one of my fav parts of taking a Disney vacation. Unless you have to go off property enough times that a taxi is out of the question, then save your money on a rental car and take the transportation that's provided.

Re: Renting a Car in Disney? Yes or No?

We love having both. We use the rail for those parks & DTD buses. For the others we like to drive since we'll split days with BB & AK or TL & HS. Find it really hard & extremely time consuming to do that with buses. One year we did AK in the am, BB in the afternoon & HS in the eve. Spent well over an hour relying on buses to transfer. Did the AK/HS switch another and only took less than 15 min.

Re: Renting a Car in Disney? Yes or No?

For us, we are on vacation, we like having Disney chauffeur us around. Sometimes the buses work great, other times not so much. But it is so nice to have somebody else do the driving!

Re: Renting a Car in Disney? Yes or No?

We rented online from Budget and picked up at a hotel near Downtown Disney-much cheaper that way.

If you or anyone in your group are DoD, Shades of Green has a Hertz inside the resort. A mid-size car runs under $300 a week ($43 a day).

Re: Renting a Car in Disney? Yes or No?

I love Disney transportation. Last trip, however, we had a bus driver who drove like a maniac. The bus was at max. capacity and I thought (more than once) that the bus might flip because of the driver's erratic maneuvering. DH never gets worried about such things but even he was nervous. During that bus trip, I was really wishing we would've had a rental car.

Re: Renting a Car in Disney? Yes or No?

I looked up some pricing on the web and it seems that renting a car at MCO will cost about $270 for the week...which, honestly is not that bad. Since we are staying at the resort parking is free at all the parks right?

This is the first year we flew and did not have a car. My daughter ended up getting real sick and had to be transported from Celebration hospital to Orlando hospital for 3 days. The cab ride back and forth to this hospital is $150.00. I just stayed with her for the three days. It was a very bad trip my cousins son was in the same hospital right before my daughter. 12 Adults also got sick including me. Not a magical vacation.

Re: Renting a Car in Disney? Yes or No?

We drive to WDW every year, and we park the car and it stays in the lot...well until I take my guilty pleasure trip to the Walmart! There is something about just getting on a bus or a boat and going home. They are very easy and I have never waited long. Once my friends drove to and from MK and it took them forever just to get to their car!! I will be on one of those buses in 14 days! :)

That is correct: parking is free for Disney resort guests.

Driving your own car vs using Disney transportation is purely a matter of personal choice, but I have to say: after hearing about a co-worker with an injured child at Disney and no way to get him to the hospital (he required stitches, not an ambulance type of emergency), I have always felt having a car was a necessity for my family.

Re: Renting a Car in Disney? Yes or No?

Our first two trips the buses served thier purpose
All the rest regardless of where we stayed we had cars.
Sorry Dopey old friend I see no "magic" on the buses.
Be it over tired kids, fighting kids, people with way to
little clothes on and some with way to little deoderant on.
Give me a car anyday at WDW
