Driving your own car vs using Disney transportation is purely a matter of personal choice, but I have to say: after hearing about a co-worker with an injured child at Disney and no way to get him to the hospital (he required stitches, not an ambulance type of emergency), I have always felt having a car was a necessity for my family.
Disney will transport you to celebration hospital for no charge. You would just need to get a ride back. My daughter was transfered to celebration hospital from HS first aid and they said I did not have to pay for the ride, but if my child has to be admitted they have to transport her to the orlando hospital which they did, and it is very expensive if the family wants to visit. You really don't need to rent a car If something happens like what happened to us you can go over to the swan and rent a car there.

Gosh I am sorry about your daughter. Did you ever find out what everybody had? You mentioned a number of people had fallen ill at the same time.

That's good to know they offer at least a one way ride. As far as I know, they did not offer that service to the woman who worked with me. She was told she needed to wait til morning since it wasn't an emergency.

Still doesn't sway my resolve to have my own transportation with me. I feel more comfortable having the ability to come and go as I please.

Our trip was horrible. Yes the first child that was admitted was told he had a highly contagious virus that is why we all got it. It was called the adeno virus.
The children were very dehydrated and were on fluids in the hospital as he was being released my daughter was being admitted. My daughter had a very high white blood count 22 it should be 11. I was told by my dr. when she had a relapse a week after she was in the hospital that she must have had something else going on because of her high blood count. That must be why they gave her antibiotic at the hospital. Need less to say our whole trip someone was either in bed or at the hospital with their kids. Hope this does not happen again. We had to make the best of it. Oh yea they said the virus is airbourn so hand sanitizer does not always work.

We are planning to go back next year. Hope we have a better time. The problem is we were with a grand gathering 24 people, and that probably won't happen next year. It will probably just be us. We are trying to get Disney to at least get us into the same hotel, but they are saying we have to wait till it gets closer. We are not asking for a free trip, but at least something for all we went through we had very little time to do things and the kids missed out on a lot. If Walt were alive he would not let this happen. He was all about the kids and if they had a good time not the money. Sorry I had to vent my kids waited for a year for this vacation.

We always rent a car. We like the freedom. I just booked a rental car at Dollar Rental at the Regal Sun Resort in Buena. We booked an economy car for $159 (plus taxes) for the week. I used a discount code from Mousemisers. Mousemisers has alot of good info.

Re: Renting a Car in Disney? Yes or No?

We always rent a car. We think that it cuts a good full hour off travel time every day - and that means extra time in the parks. We also love having a car at the end of a very long day or to travel to the different resorts. We just feel we have so much more freedom - and we can visit other parks or go shopping if need be. The only place we don't take a car is to the Magic Kingdom - it's just too complicated.

Re: Renting a Car in Disney? Yes or No?

we always have our car but never really use it and then there's that day or two that i am always like "dang it! we should have driven".

when we had to take kat to celebration, they offered to call us an ambulance. they said that's all they could do. i am guessing they are only insured to take people around on their property. insurance liability if they got into an accident would be ridiculous. magical express and disney cruise line are actually run by a company hired by disney correct?

i am so sorry about your trip wendy! unfortunately with trip insurance now, i wouldn't expect disney to offer anything special to you. but it would be nice if they did and ita with the poster that said walt would have!

I've not tried to use the discount codes yet, but thanks for the link. We plan to get an Alamo car for 4 days during our trip and will be picking it up from WDW, so this is good to know. Cheers

IMO...the car is freedom and convenience..just Shop around! If you are on this site, then you must have the coupon code. Alamo and national are no more or less at MCO..just get your coupon code.

6 years in a row, 7 day rental midsize (Altima, Camry) $150-(Murano, Highlander) 200 max after codes / coupons.

bottled water at disney $2.50 X24 =$60.00, price (at Publix) case of 24 = $3.99..add in snacks another case of water, bagels and breakast...it's basically free!
