Security at Orlando Airport

I just read a post that said security at Orlando Airport was a joke. We flew out of Orlando on Sunday night and there was so much security that we almost missed our flight. First we had to check in at the counter and have our luggage weighed and tagged then we had to bring our luggage to security to be xrayed (everybody and every piece! It wasnt random checking) finally off to the security gates which was completely thorough and took some time. It took us an hour and a half to get from the front door to the gate just in time for final boarding call.

Security was fine and I felt very comfortable with the measures taken. Give yourselves plenty of time when travelling home!

As as a veteran flier, I can tell you there is no longer random secuirty screenings of checked baggage. Every piece is checked whether you see it or not!!! Some airports (such as Jackosnville, Floirda Airport) screens bags behind the scenes, while others use bomb sniffing machines. I am sure that at the Orlando airport you will definetly need an hour and a half.

the other day I took a bus to Orlando international airport and to my surprise they came on board the bus with a k-9 officer and searched the bus. they said that they have increased security and to expect it every time now, with or without passengers.

When we flew out of ABE in December, we had to open our luggage (the bags you let them take), and they went through everything by hand. Talk about a embarrising moment, keep personal items with you, they didn't go through the carry on bags nearly as much.:(

I am thrilled to see these security measures in place. This makes me feel secure in flying. My life and the life of my daughter is worth an extra hour and a half of my time before a flight. I have every intetnion of thanking them personally for the measures that they are taking.

We went threw MCO in early December and security was the best ever seen in that airport.I was happy to see the better security, the sad part was that some passengers did nothing but complain about it.We went to the airport two hours early and we needed every minute of it.The screeners where very nice so I dont know why people where complaining.

The people that were complaining probably had a very good reason for complaining. I know that these new TSA people can go crazy with the screening. I know this from bad expiriences with security. Just go with the flow! It is what it it!

Yeah, just got back and remembered how terribly the Orlando airport is setup!!!! They have to seperatly screen the bags... and lines are huge but they move faster than some of the lines at WDW ;) :D

I am not sure about Sanford. I know that after 9/11 the government here set new strict standards. One of those was that all baggage was to be screened by this past October. Amazingly we made it, with just a few small exceptions. Most airports have had to have these machines off to the side, until they can build it permanently into their bagagge system. Airports such as Jacksonville, Florida have them built in and they just throw them right on the conveyor belt and t gets x-rayed later.
