Hi all,

Has anybody gone horseback riding at Fort Wilderness?? Was it a good experience for 8 and 10 year olds??

Anybody know what the minimum age is??

The minimum age is 9 years old. I have never done this but am considering it this year because my DD is a horse freak! I know that they also have pony rides at the nearby petting farm area next to the hoop-de-doo, so if you have younger ones they could do that, only it is not very exciting. I might take my DD, while dad takes the younger one to the petting zoo.

Thanks. Do you think that they are pretty firm on the 9 year old limit? My DS will be 8 years and 9 months old. I imagine like most times, they will be firm on the age limit.

Re: Horseback Rding at Fort Wilderness

Well, I don't think they expect you to carry around birth certificates with you. If you say she's nine, I guess they'd have to take your word for it. If you are honest and give her real age, I'm sure you'll be turned away. So. . I guess it is a matter of if you want to lie about her age to get her able to go.. .However, if something happened and she got hurt, it would really be your problem legally, since you fudged on her age. I contemplated this last year, too, but decided to tell my daughter to wait for this year (now she is nine). I guess it is just an ethical dilemma that you will have to decide.

Re: Horseback Rding at Fort Wilderness

I remember my DH, DD, and friends of ours did the horse back riding quite a few years ago. They had a really good time. Said they would do it again.
As far as age goes, I don't know, but I'm sure being your daughter being closer to 9 than 8 it should be ok. Good Luck, and have fun!!! JOANN
