Icon14 Pleasure Island, admission required to clubs only

Beginning May 23 and running until August 14th, Pleasure Island will be testing out operations as an un-gated area. In other words, anyone will be able to walk around Pleasure Island, including the outside of the clubs.

To enter any of the clubs, you will need Pleasure Island admission. The PI Ticket will grant you admission to all clubs.

Persons under 18 must be accompanied by a person 21 years of age or older and who has an acceptable form of identification in order to enter the clubs. Additional age restrictions may apply.

Re: Pleasure Island, admission required to clubs only

GREAT IDEA! When the kids were younger, we'd bop around PI during the daytime hours and visit the shops that were open, but we didn't go back at night (too much other stuff to do at night with wee ones, you know). DW and I aren't much into club hopping (we're ancient the kids say - 48) but this idea gives more people a chance to see what PI is all about.

Re: Pleasure Island, admission required to clubs only

I thought it was always un-gated. I have walked in and watched bands playing on stage at night. I just walked right in. I never tried to go in any of the club or shows. Maybe that’s only in Sept. when crowds are low.

This is a very cool idea, and I hope this test goes well and Disney decides to make it permenant. My favorite thing to do at PI is to watch Frankie and the West End Boys, and they play at the outdoor stage. If they allowed roaming of PI except for the clubs, then I could go and watch them for free.

Are the clubs the only place you need a PI admission to get into. Are there any reastaurants, boutiques, or arcades which also require PI admission. Also is PI 'kid friendly' at night or does it tend to get rowdy.

Thanks for the info!

Re: Pleasure Island, admission required to clubs only

I work at PI on the college program- yes, it is kid friendly and parents will sometimes have their kids tag along. If it was me, I probably wouldn't want to bring my kids along so I could do whatever I wanted and could stay as late as I wanted. If I see kids with parents, it's usually with a group of many adults who didn't want to leave their kids at home so they can have a good time. The kids enjoy the West End Stage with the live music though.

The only thing you need a ticket for is the 8 clubs on pleasure island. It gets you into all the clubs. A park hopper plus or ultimate will get you into PI as well. Just not a regular 4 day park hopper.

So far the un-gating is a success. The only group who doesn't seem to like it is the annual pass holders. But people just dont like change in general when they get used to something for a long time. I think the ungating is a great idea.

You also may want to keep in mind that although you are welcome to bring your kids into PI with you, if you take them into the Adventurers Club or the Comedy club, its still might be a bit too much for kids. Also while they are very serious about underage drinking, they push the alchohol on the crowd that can drink, so there will be people around who are quite intoxicated, you should consider whether or not you want to expose your kids to that before bringing them along. Honestly, I think its wrong to see strollers being pushed around the west end stage at 11:30 at night.

I think that the reason why PAP'ers don't like it is they pay more for unlimited admission to PI,and now you don't have to pay to get onto it.

I have a PAP but we hardly ever go to PI. We don't go in the clubs but I really like the music at the West End Stage and we really just hang around there.

The only place DH and I went to was the comedy club. It was hysterical. We aren't into club hopping.

Re: Pleasure Island, admission required to clubs only

I missed this trial because I last visited the week before it began. I did go to PI one night during that vacation though and it was fabulous! I hadn't been to PI in years, and that visit was during the day to check out the stores, etc. This nightime excursion was a real treat.

I am not ordinarily a "club person" either (esp. now that I've passed the half century mark), but I recommend a nighttime visit to PI to all adults. Teens would have a great time, too, I think.

When I went, there were folks of all ages-babies to seniors-in attendance. I do think that the majority of patrons were younger adults (20's and early 30's), and the place was packed even though it was a weeknight.

I remember going to the Adventurer's Club, the Comedy Club and a jazz club. I saw the 'free' stage show near midnight that preceded the fireworks. There were some young women who came out on the stage and tossed hats and shirts to the audience. I was too far away to catch anything (Thank goodness! considering the way I saw some people go after the goods.) In fact, I was standing in the line for the next CC show (I think there were three or four during the night.)

I do want to note that there are dozens of drinking stations set up all over PI. One needn't buy alcoholic beverages but they are readily available for purchase. There are even vendors walking around selling jello shots. Anyway, my two friends stopped to buy a drink at on of the trailers. The bartender (a young woman) actually warned them not to let their drinks out of their sight at any time. I think that there have been problems with drinks getting spiked. So, remember, you should always be conscious of your surroundings even in WDW.

Anyway, I definitely plan to return to PI. It is 'tons fo fun'!

Re: Pleasure Island, admission required to clubs only

For those who are not into "club hopping" I would still suggest at least trying the Comedy Warehouse and the Adventurer's Club. The CC is just like the Drew Carey show "Whose Line is it Anyway". The AC is hard to describe. Just make sure you are there for one of the "shows".
