I would love to know, I loved that place. More fun that Wet-N-Wild, or WaterMania.

Re: River Country Rumors?

I had heard they were going to make this into an expanded pool area for Ft.Wilderness campers. Not sure where I heard that, it might even have been here at DC.

I heard that too. I stayed at the Wilderness Lodge in July and the boat to the MK stopped @ Ft. Wilderness and all of the wooden paths and trails and structures like the boom swing and the slides that stop before the water were still there. I miss it so badly. I found a map of it at another website.

What website did you find the map on?

Re: River Country Rumors?

When we went in June, we went to Mickey's Backyard BBQ, which takes place on River Country property at the outdoor pavilion (bottom left on the map). I got a bit reminiscent (sp?) when we walked under that big RC water tower to enter, but when I went to take my 5 yo to the bathroom and realized I was going in the RC locker room, I actually stopped in my tracks for a moment to take it all in. They still have the locker room/towel rental signs up, and when you looked over the wall you could see the drop slides. My 5 yo looked at me like I was nuts (I think I had some tears in my eyes from the sudden flood of memories of being there with my family when I was a kid). After we left the bathroom, I tried to explain to him a little about RC and what it was like. It's sad to see it boarded up and still all the same. I would like to see them do something else with the property instead of just letting it sit like that.

Re: River Country Rumors?

We too saw everything when we went to the Mickey's BYBBQ. I am so surprised that Disney has left things the way they are for all to see the park is still there, behind the walls. When we were leaving, we were talking to one of the CM's. We asked him what they were going to do with it and he just said they are dumping the money elsewhere. He also said that being it has not been maintained for so many years, the park is in bad disrepair. He told us to go to Savedisney.com for more info, but I could not find anything there.

I too have so many fond memories of my dad and us kids going down the tube slide laughing like crazy.

Re: River Country Rumors?

Awwweeeee.... You guys are making me feel like I really should have gone to RC. I know they closed it, because of some sort of conatminet (sp?) in the lake, but why not clean it up to have more of a kid's waterpark??

Re: River Country Rumors?

I'm so sad that I never got a chance to visit RC before they closed it. Curious, about how much land/room is there leftover? I don't really know how big it was. And what is the exact location again...is it an island?

Re: River Country Rumors?

I was there quite a few times when I was younger. I remember having a great time there, though the green water of the lake was different. It really does not compare to any of the new water parks, but should be remembered for being the first man made created water park. I think they could have put some $$ into it, and brought it back to life. Fort Wilderness has no themed pools, just the generic cement square pool. :(
