Atlantic Dance Hall
Hey there, y'all! I will be 21 in two weeks. So I think this merits a question or two about the Dance Hall since I'l be old enough to actually go in...
I'm a big swing dancing fan, a big-band-swing-music nut, and the whole idea of the dance hall entices me. From what I've heard anyways. Do you have to pay to get into the Boardwalk if you're not staying at a Disney resort? Do you have to pay to get into the dance hall period? Anyone ever been in there that can tell me what it's like? I'm not looking forward to being harassed by friends about drinking when my bday comes along...are the drunk people plentiful? They bother me... Anything an experienced Dance-Haller could tell me would be nice and helpful for if/when I ever get to it... ![]()

Re: Atlantic Dance Hall
I know it is free to get onto the Boardwalk, not sure about anything on the dance hall. What about hitting up Pleasure Island? That would be an awesome 21st birthday in my mind.

Re: Atlantic Dance Hall
Heh, I tried Pleasure Island twice during my CP, I'm not like every other 20-something obviously cause I didn't like it all that much. Not my kind of crowd. Too many teeny boppers or drunk kids or 30-somethings giving me a once-over.
The second time was somewhat more bearable because we only visited 8-trax and got to dance to those crazy 80s songs, just goofing off and stuff. I swore to myself I'd never go back to PI until they opened a swing club...or I'd just go to Atlantic Dance. ![]()

Re: Atlantic Dance Hall
LOL... Ok. Yeah, PI sounds like the type of place I would go once or twice a year. I am not much of a party person myself.

Re: Atlantic Dance Hall
The last time I went to Atlantic Dance Hall, there was no cover charge. There weren't a lot of people there and I don't recall there being anyone that was obviously drunk. If you take a partner with you, you will probably have a great time. It has been a couple of years since I have been there so I don't know if things have changed or not with the increase in swing dance interest.

Re: Atlantic Dance Hall
Hmm, thanks for the info, Huakai! Now I just need to find someone who swing dances....hm...after my lessons I took last summer though, I could always teach my partner since I was stuck leading.
And I didn't mean to come off as some stuck up PI hater...it's just not my groove.Whoa, disneyguy...yer in my state! What a co-inky-dink!

Re: Atlantic Dance Hall
If you go, be sure to post and let us know how it went. Since I took lessons last year, I have wanted to go back. I know what you mean about having to lead. That is what happened to me in dance class too!! The doctor I took with said if it didn't have to do with medicine he couldn't do it. He wasn't kidding either. It is a wonder he could even walk....has a real problem remembering to alternate feet!!

Re: Atlantic Dance Hall
I learned to swing dance last year and taught Pete. We're actually not too bad. I think we're going to try it this time.

Re: Atlantic Dance Hall
I went with Huakai a few years ago. Like she said, there really wasn't a lot of people. The few that were there were dressed in-style. It was early though. I wasn't 21 either. It did look like a lot of fun. But remember, if it's not as fun as you thought it would be, you could always walk over to JellyRolls for some piano sing-along. We go every year and there never seems to be anyone that is obviously drunk. Definitely let us know how it goes. I'd be interested in trying the Hall out again.

Re: Atlantic Dance Hall
one: you don't pay to get on the boardwalk at all. it's absolutely free.
two: if i recall, there is no admission to ADH. this might have changed but i'm not sure three: ADH is a lot of fun. though we haven't been there at night, we had our wedding reception there and it was a lot of fun. it's roomy, beatiful and there's a nice balcony on both floors to get a good view of across the lake there.

Re: Atlantic Dance Hall
We were just at the Atlantic Dance Hall and there is no cover charge. They don't open until 9 p.m., so it usually never gets going until about 11 p.m. And the majority of the music is top 40 and hip-hop, not swing. Make sure to get your drinks at the bar from Brian. He will make sure you leave there feeling good. Also, don't be suprised if it's not busy at all. they rely on convention crowds from the dolphin and swan. Good luck.
