transportation to Driving Experience

Does anyone know about transportation to the Richard Petty Driving Experience? We need to be at the track around 7:30 a.m. so I'm wondering what transportation we would take from PC to the TTC (since the parks aren't open yet), where I think we can pick up a shuttle to the track. Thanks, any info is greatly appreciated!

Re: transportation to Driving Experience

I bought the Rookie Experience as a surprise for my son for our January trip. It was raining that morning. We had to get a cab that who took us directly to the gate of Richard Petty's.

Unfortunately for us it was not a good experience. First the cab driver spoke very little English and had no idea how to get there. He knew it was around the TTC but that was all. He got lost, we all had to look for signs, and then he charged us $20.00. We had to wait in the guardhouse area until a van showed up and took us the rest of the way in, where we were informed that it was cancelled and it was nonrefundable. We were leaving the next day, so couldn't reschedule while we were down there. We were lucky, I guess, because at least Richard Petty had a Driving Experience here in Texas at Texas Motor Speedway in April and July, so we were able to get a raincheck and my son will be doing it here in April. However they will not honor the AP discount I used and I am going to have to pay the difference. Some people there didn't have a RPDE near them and so just lost their money. Pray for sunshine or at least make sure you don't schedule it for the last couple of days you're there.

At least the RPDE van did take all of us back to our hotels (those of us that didn't have cars). The driver said he usually picks participants up at the TTC and then returns them, back to the TTC.

My husband did this, he went to TTC and they picked him up and dropped him off there. Ask at guest services when you check in , but you could take the bus to MK and then ride the monorail to TTC. The buses run early because of early breakfast PS.

Thanks! Any idea how much time to allow for this?

Re: transportation to Driving Experience

Hey Smee, the actual Petty shuttle pickup is at the pet kennel near the TTC. It sounds like you're doing the 8:00 A.M. session. This one should last between 3 1/2 to 4 hours since the next session is scheduled at 1:00 P.M. I've done this 3 times and it is a blast if you're the one driving. It can get a bit tedious if you're there as a family member and are just watching. If that is the case, Petty also offers their ride-a-long experience for family members of the driving participants at a discount from the regular price. If you do this, the wait for your family member who is driving won't seem so long. Also, the rush will last for about that long as well. Have fun and let us know how it went!

Re: transportation to Driving Experience

how long does it take just for the ride along? I just bought a pass for that? How do we get to the kennel area?

Re: transportation to Driving Experience

fun4bru, the ride along is 3 laps. You go with one of the instructors who knows the track like the back of his hand. You should hit around 145 mph (the fastest I have driven is 126 mph), so get ready for a big thrill. The kennel is right next to the ticket booths for the MK. Someone there should be able to point it out for you. Have a blast!
