Need some golf advice..

We are heading down to WDW in less than 2 weeks and I am thinking of surprising my DH with some kind of golf outing.

Here is the thing....he doesn't play golf very often (2 or 3 times a year) and he really enjoys it BUT he says he is not very good. I don't play golf at all so if I were to get him a tee time then he would be paired up with strangers that could be very good and then he would not enjoy himself at all ya know? He would probably feel pretty embarrassed, I think. So then I thought about signing him up for a 90 minute golf lesson with one of the pros. Has anyone done this? Is it worth the $150? Would he enjoy doing this? I am so confused and just don't know what to do. HELP!!

Re: Need some golf advice..

I'm not a golfer, so I'm probably not the best person to answer this, BUT . . .
if your husband golfs only a couple of times a year I really don't see the value in taking a lesson. Whatever he learns will be long forgotten by the time he picks up a club again. I also can understand your concern about not wanting to pair him up with a bunch of better players. And, let's face it, you can golf just about anywhere. So, since you'll be at WDW, why don't you spend your money doing something special that you both can enjoy? Why not enjoy a romantic dinner for two at Victoria & Albert's or check into the availability of an Illuminations fireworks cruise at Epcot?

Re: Need some golf advice..

One suggestion, get a twilight tee time. If things haven't changed, the twilight tee times start pretty early at DW (3pm in the summer). In the late afternoon, my experience the courses are not crowded (at least the Palm Course which I played three different trips). A couple of times I wound playing the back nine by myself on a course that seemed empty.

If the course is not crowded, there's less pressure to play well. If you play some go along with him and be a twosome. The courses at DW are IMMACULATE! Also, remember most of these are tourists and you aren't going to run into many low handicappers out there. Good luck.

To be honest, I would not do it, let him do the three or four times a year with his buddies. I know I would be nervous with strangers. Save your money, take him out to eat instead.

Re: Need some golf advice..

I Did This For My Husband As A Surprise In December 2004. He Just Starting Golfing About 2 Years Ago Maybe 4 Or 5 Times A Year And He's Been Talking About It All The Time. Anyways He Was So Excited That We Was Going To Get A Golf Lesson From A Pro And Golf One Or Two Holes He Couldn't Sleep The Night Before. He Had To Be There By 8:00am, Pop Century Set Up A Taxi For Him At No Charge Which Was Nice. I Thought 90 Minutes He Would Be Gone For About Two Or Two Ahalf Hours. One Hour Later He Showed Back At The Hotel Saying It Was O.k. That Since He Was A Beginner That The Pro Said Thier Was No Need To Go On The Golf Course! He Just Showed Him How To Use The Club And To Stand, Left Him Swing A Couple Times And Said That It Was Over. He Was So Disappointed And So Was I With The Money I Spent!
