There's always lots of events going on at Wide World of Sports. Not only is it the spring training home of the Atlanta Braves, but the Orlando Rays, the Double-A farm team of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, play their games there, too. The stadium is perhaps the nicest minor-league facility in the country.
Many amateur events, softball, baseball, football, etc. also are held there and there's also a very nice sports bar/restaurant on the premises. Follow this link for all the info: http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wal...ldOfSportsDWWS

My DH and two DS are also sports fanatics. We ate dinner one night at the ESPN club on the boardwalk. It is worth it for you to call there to see if any sports stars will be there during your visit. (probably you could just call when you get to Disney World). We didnt call ahead, but the night we were there, Peerless Price (receiver for the Falcons) was doing a sports talk live show there! My 12 yo got to ask him a question on the "air". His face was up on the big screen and everything! Both DS's got his autograph after the show too. There were pro football players there every night for like two weeks! It is definitely worth checking out if your family is into pro sports.

Don't confuse the ESPN Club at Boardwalk with the sports bar at Disney's Wide World of Sports complex. The WWS restaurant/bar is called the Official All-Star Café and is located next to the baseball stadium. The ESPN Club is at Boardwalk -- an entirely different location.

It is a beautiful sports complex with the Tampa Bucs (yuk) practicing there. They usually scrimmage the Fish (yuk) during August and it is open to the public.
Also, the Atlanta Braves (yuk) practice there too. |

I went there last aug. and saw the dolphins (my favorite team) practice and scrimmage against the Bucs. It was a lot of fun and was a beautiful field. You can check out the link on the disney.com website and see if anything is going on while you are there. We had a great time.:)

I was there also. Afterwards, my son and W. Sapp began to argue with each other. My son started yelling "Strahan Strahan" refering to the Sapp-Strahan arguements on TV. The Bucs are there again this year, do you know if they will scrimmage the Fish again?

You can check out the upcoming schedule of events at WWS on the Disney website. Just go the Wide World of Sports link. WWS is a user-friendly park. That is, there are lots of amateur sports going on there besides the pro stuff, which is seasonal. My daughter's club soccer team played in a tournament there a couple years ago and really loved the experience. We were a U-15 team at the time and finished second. We're from St. Louis and played teams from Canada, Maryland, Florida and Ohio. The girls loved it (and so did the parents). The girls made friends with many of the girls from other teams and my daughter still corresponds with some players she met who live in Toronto. The staff at WWS treated our girls like princesses! The facilities are wonderful and the fields were the absolute best we've EVER played on. Our team stayed at the All-Star Sports resort (with special tournament rates) and got discounts on theme park tickets as well. Besides our soccer tournament, there was a basketball tournament going on at the same time and we saw some great amateur basetball being played. The All-Star restaurant was very good (it's owned by several pro athletes, including Wayne Gretzky). There is a lot of sports memoribilia (kind of like a Planet Hollywood for sports). If you love sports and love Disney, then Disney's Wide World of Sports is the perfect combination!
