Icon5 Birthday surprise anyone?

We're going to be in Disney during my son's 9th birthday on 10/6/08. We're getting the birthday button and on "every" reservation we made we told them it was his birthday. We are hoping for some sort of birthday surprise like a balloon, cupcake with a candle, etc...I've heard some people get surprises, some don't and it's very random. Can anyone tell me of the surprises they got or someone they know got? And what can I do to improve my chances of my son getting alittle extra?

Re: Birthday surprise anyone?

DH and I had anniversary buttons when we went in August. Tons of cast members, especially at MK, went out of their way to say, "Happy Anniversary." We received free champagne at CA Grill and Le Cellier, as well as free dessert at Brown Derby.

It all depends on the restaurant what their policy is. He'll get a lot more attention if you can get him to wear the hat that looks like a birthday cake, plus the button. Try to spend his actual birthday at Magic Kingdom, they were much more aware of the little extras.

Re: Birthday surprise anyone?

We were at CP for breakfast for my DD birthday. I had let them know when I made the reservation it was her birthday. When we arrived to our table it was decorated in colorful confeti and after we ate the brought out a cupcake with a candle and sang her happy birthday, well everyone did in our section. they also handed her a card signed from all the characters. It was soooo awsome and she ate it up!

Re: Birthday surprise anyone?

We went in 2005 for DD's 5th birthday. We were there for 9 days and had the birthday mentioned on ALL ADRs. She got something extra at EVERY SINGLE ONE! Here are the ones I can remember:
CRT - decorated table
CR - decorated table
1900 Park Fare - Birthday Crown, cupcake and placemat
O'Hana - cupcake with candle
Le Cellier - A card signed by the staff and a cupcake with candle

On the actual day of her birthday (10/16) when we returned to our room at CBR we found balloons and a signed card of Belle and Beast! She got lots of attention in the parks too! Several phone calls from Goofy, stickers, extra fast passes. IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!

Re: Birthday surprise anyone?

My son had his birthday at WDW a couple of years ago. He got a cupcake at Chef Mickey's (for breakfast, none the less), but that was it. Mickey Mouse did make a big deal out of his birthday, because it happens to be Mickey's birthday too. Mickey was pointing to his birthday button, then pointing to DS button to show they shared their special day!
Otherwise, CM's stopped and said happy birthday all day. He also had a fair number of guests do the same thing, which is always a good way to share that Disney spirit!

Re: Birthday surprise anyone?

We were celebrating our anniversary there last year and out TA must have told LTT about it because there was Mickey confetti in the shape of a heart on our table, then the waitress announced it to the people around us and after our meal she gave us a big cupcake. Very nice.

Re: Birthday surprise anyone?

WOW, Willbegone, your child got the royal treatment! I hope my son is just as lucky. Just incase I'm working on some surprises of my own. But it can get very expensive since I'm also throwing him a birthday party at home 5 days before we leave with 18 kids.OH and B1WIFE, I never thought about MK on his birthday. We've got his birthday dinner planned at Chef Mickeys. I made some ADR in MK 2 days before his BDAY & 2 DAYS after. It would kind of screw up all my ADR's if I changed things now. I wish I thought of MK sooner for his B-day.

Re: Birthday surprise anyone?

Thanks for the input. I'm looking for his hat that looks like a birthday cake to bring with us. I just called WDW & double checked that each ADR was marked it was his BDAY. Good thing. Each one was noted except CRT. The rep added the note that it's Shawn's birthday & to decorate his birthday table for the celebration. Also, she said Chef Mickey's does not bring FREE cupcakes with candles to the bday child anymore. So I ordered one of their 6" cakes with his name on it. She said the staff will come over with it & sing.

I know it will be magical! Go in expecting nothing and it will be great. We had absolutely no expectations of any kind and were pleasantly surprised.

Re: Birthday surprise anyone?

Thank you. Beautiful kids by the way. The little one looks like my 8 year old did at that age. I'll post some pictures as soon as I learn how. (My 12 yr old will teach me)

When we celebrated Ds's 3rd Birthday I thought that CP did a great job in getting balloons, and confetti for the table. It was so cute. He had a wonderful Birthday with Tigger, Pooh, and Piglet. OOPs almost forgot eeyore.

Re: Birthday surprise anyone?

We've celebrated my DS and DD's birthdays several times at WDW. This is what they've gotten in the past:

CRT: Cupcake and placemat signed by all of the princesses
CP: Decorated table, cupcake and signed card
Chef Mickey: Cupcake and placemat signed by the characters
1900 Park Fare: Crown, cupcake and placemat
Tony's Town Square: Birthday sundae
Hollywood & Vine: Cupcake and card signed by characters

At Hollywood Studios and at WOD in DTD cast members have made calls to Goody to wish them a happy birthday over the telephone. At POP Century they've delivered at some point during our stay a few balloons attached to a signed picture of their favorite character.

Re: Birthday surprise anyone?

The hotel asked us what our Fav characters were (DD and I were celebrating our B-days together this past Dec. and our b-days are 2 days apart!) and the next day we had a special autographed b-day card from the "character" of our choosing with a picture of them on the front.
DD was into C&D at the time so that's what I told the front desk and there was a nice photo of them on the front of the card, and inside 'they' signed it.
I requested Mickey!

Every restaurant we ate at, we both got a special desert (no matter breakfast, lunch or dinner, they will give you). Some places only give cupcakes, depends on that particular restaurant.
California grill also gave me a nice card with a pic of the castle w/fireworks background and a pic inside of DD and me that one of the CM's took!

Wear that pin everywhere and make sure the B-day is on EVERY ADR!!!!
Every restaurant gave us a card signed by the characters too!

CRT- chocolate cake dome w/white icing, mickey confetti
Ohana- cupcake
CM - cupcakes with autographed placemats
Kona- some kind of pastry desert
CG- our own desert we ordered w/candles, decorated table w/mickey confetti
Sci-Fi- ice cream sundae w/candles (i think dd ordered this)
Akershus- cupcakes?
GG- Cupcakes
That's what I remember, will have to go back to my TR for pics! ( I just went back and read my TR, how fun!!!! )

Have Fun!
