Riding the Monorail

Can you get on the monorail and just ride around and around?

Is there a certain color monorail assigned to the monorail resorts, the one we can ask to ride up front in? Are they the same color everyday or do they change?

If you get to ride up front, can you make a full circle without getting off?

Thanks!

yes you can get on the monorail and ride around and around either of them ..the one that goes around to the resorts or the longest ride which is to and from epcot. You have to switch to the Epcot Monorail at the Ticket and Transportation Center.

the monorails arent different colors, but they have a different colored stripe on them. here is a link of monorail pictures :)

I dont know if you can make a full circle if you ride in the front but you can always ask :)

We do this when we stay on the monorail loop. My children love it.

The way that it was explained to me was that each resort has a monorail assigned to it for the day and the color changes daily. If a monorail comes to your resort, and there is room in the front, you can get on, but when it arrives at the designated resort and there is someone who wants to sit in the front then you have to move back to another car. For instance, if you would get on the monorail at the Poly and it is the one designated for GF and you arrive at the GF and someone is waiting to ride in the front then you must move back at the GF. However, if no one is waiting you can stay in the front. If you get on at the Poly and you are in the monorail designated for the Poly, then you can ride around until you arrive back at the Poly.

When we arrived at WDW last month, we went to Chef Mickeys for the first night and then rode the monorails to EPCOT and around the laggon for awhile. Our 2 sons loved it.

Riding the monorail is a fantastic way to cool down/rest your feet! If you're feeling a little pooped while at the MK, just take the monorail for a loop or two. It's fun, the kids'll love it, and it'll refresh you a little bit!

They alternate monorails, I assume based on which ones need maintenance, etc. I don't think there's a real system to it.

I will never ever forget my first time on the monorail. It was like a ride to me. I was so excited...it was magical transportation and I still prefer it over the boat to MK.

well the strobe lights on the monorail changes color based on what route they are doing, for example I think the express is a red strobe light, they also have one for don not load this monorail I hear have never seen that one, they do alot of monorail mait back at the wdw central shop behind the MK, they have room for 9 or 10 monorails there but one beam is reserved for the monorail tow truck, every night they bring back the ones that need mait, however they only put out a certain number of monorails per day, for example its sept. 10 and its a wensday they might run 3 resorts, 3 express, and 2 epcot out of there fleet of 12 monorails, no lets change the date to dec 25 and its a sat. they will run at least 4 monorails on the epcot loop (capable of 5 monorails on that loop) 4 on the express and 4 on the resort, if the epcot loop gets swamped they will pull one form the resort loop to help out they just shorten the stop times on the resort loop to keep the same number of people moving.

Monorail

I've heard a lot of things from CMs about riding in front. I was told you can just get it when the monorail comes. I've also heard that you have to get to the station early in the morning and make your reservation which I don't think would be possible.

You can always ask to ride but its first come first serve but you do have to get to another car at a station if someone wants to get on.

I have never heard of reservations to ride up front. We have done it several times. We have never been asked to leave the front at a stop because someone else wanted to ride, and have never seen anyone being made to leave.. when we ask, they check or say someone is already riding in the front, we are usually told we can wait on the next. ..so I dont know about that part either

the resort loop is the only one like this and that was explained earlier better then I can explain it. I remember one night I was leaving the MK just before a 9pm closing. I got over to the ttc and the monorail was packed in every car so I said hmm, asked a CM is the front cab open expecting him to laugh he says right this way. We got to EPCOT and they were shooting off illuminations then he had to stop to await traffic clearnce of all times to stop it was perfect. he told me normally stops a little farther back but figured he'd pull up so everyone could watch the show. best view I ever had of the show.

When we went last summer, I rode up front with my 2 sons at least 4 times. This was a first for me after many visits. We would just ask when egtting to the monorail stop. We went a few times in the middle of the afternoon and there was no one in line and got to ride up front. This was my 7 years old sons trip highlight. If you get to ride up front, don't forget to ask for your honary monorail drivers license. My wife loved scrapbooking these.

We have almost decided it would be cheaper for us to stay offsite our next trip. But the monorail is the one thing i would love to ride. Maybe we can ride it this next time.

well from a offsite hotel, its easy to ride becuase you can park in the MK parking lot and then there is only 2 options to get to the MK monorail or ferry boat. the express monorail runs at a 90 second stop the majority of the time so event if you have to wait for the next train it would be worth it. there are many good monorail pilots out there that are very informative.

also if you do ride in the regular cars keep a eye out entering the contemporary for one of the older mark 4 monorails down by the convention center its just the cab, of the old monorail purple. sometimes they cover it with a tarp unsure why, but you can still make out the shape.

We have always wanted to do this and last year we decided that we were going to see if we could ride up front in our wedding attire.(thought it would make a kewl picture also)
We had the wedding at the poly, limo over to CR California Grille for dinner and then after that we went to get on the monorail to go back to the POlY. Asked the CM is we could ride up front. She said that someone was sitting there and we could wait for the next monorail (which we did)
The next monorail showed up a few minutes later and we started to walk towards the front and another CM asked where we were going and we told him. He said that we couldnt ride up front because he had a family there waiting allready. So here we are me standing in my dress and holding my flowers hubby in tux etc the family thats waiting just smiles and gets on in the frt of the monorail. :madmad We didnt feel like waiting any longer so we just went back and hopped in the middle of the monorail and back to the poly that we went....
I guess some people dont have the Disney magical feel as the rest of us do. :)

Ugh, that is TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!! I would have let you ride! ;)

Anyway, when I went in December, we stayed at the Poly for 2 nights and regretted we didn't stay their our entire stay!!! NOTHING beats the convenience of the Monorail and being able to walk to TTC. We loved it so much, we are staying there next December, too!!! :D
