Off Topic- Relocating to Florida Questions

I may have an opportunity to relocate to the Tampa/Clearwater area. Being a Disney nut is at least part of our motivation for considering it. Is there a Disney resource on the Florida resident "goodies" that we may want to take advantage of?

Paul

There is a Florida Residents section on the Official Walt Disney World Site (www.waltdisneyworld.com). I know that the specials do very sometimes. Lately they have been offering 4 Day Park Hopers for $109!! Value Resort rooms are at $59. Being in Tampa you could easily do a day trip and not even need the room! Being from Florida, I just want to warn you to be prepared for heat with humidity.

You can also check out Mouse Savers . Mary has a listing on the current Florida resident Discounts. If you have a Disney VISA, they also had a room discount geared strictly to Florida Resident card holders (I think it's listed at mousesavers also)

Hi!

I am from NE and I love FL, but like you said us Yankees cannot even take NE humidity! YUCKS!

I stay in with the a/c and dh always talks about retiring, I could do the Oct-May snow bird thing, but honestly the humidity would kill me, and I 'd complain too much!!LOL!

HE HE HE

How do you 'all get used to it?
We go to Key West in Feb and it's 90's and the humidity does me in!

But realy Paul, that is a very nice area. I grew up in Clearwater and went to USF in Tampa. The beaches are great and your only an hour or two from WDW. The traffic is realy somethin though. Thats why I moved up here to Ocala. I just need LOTS of space and I like the rural area (traffic) better.

LOL! Well guess what y'all? Not only am I a native Oregonian (and NO, I don't have webbed feet! :laugh) moving to Florida at the end of this year...but I'm bringing my Alaskan husband with me!

Personally, I ADORE the heat and humidity! Not so sure how Ryan's gonna do, but hey, he *is* a firefighter...maybe the heat doesn't bug him so much after all. :p And he's ecstatic about moving, so hopefully he doesn't pass out five minutes after we get there! Haha.

We used to live in South Florida (Ft. Lauderdale). Heat & Humidity are a definite thing to look out for, but use the a/c and be very careful during the summer and you will get used to it. Make sure your car windows are tinted dark. I am not kidding. The inside of your car will fry and disintegrate in the heat, not to mention how hot it will be when you go to get into it in the summer. Cloth interior is a must or seat covers, otherwise you'll stick. Bugs - Only comment - find a good exterminator. I have a thing against bugs that fly and attack when you try to kill them. Leave no food out at night, especially not if you have any dogs or cats or you will have a bug problem. These are not roaches. They make roaches look like little babies - These are palmetto bugs.

However the deals at Disney make it all worthwhile because you can escape to the magic on ever long weekend or holiday and enjoy those Florida discounts or you could buy an annual pass and make frequent use of it (and definitely get your money's worth). I wish I lived closer cause I would get a annual pass and we make frequent use of it, but we live too far away now(in Tennessee) and we wouldn't get enough use out if it because we can only go once a year.

Yeah! I got you there. It's cold, wet and rainy here in Tennessee and I could use some Florida sun and a little pixie dust and mouse magic right about now to take away the gloom. I think I'll go grab my photo album and the CDs from Disney and take a trip there in my mind with my DD. She just loves to take the journey to imagination with Mom.

Gotta go alleviate some Disney depression and chase away the rainy Tennessee blues.

I would like to some day move to FLA.

Maybe a forum area can be started to post questions about living in FLA and/or working for Disney.

(I'm not interested in working for WDW...ok maybe a little but I like working for myself...just want some sun/palm/beach living)
