MONORAIL Efficient?

Hi,

I have been to WDW, back in 2000, but we didn't ride the monorail at all.

I think we'll do it this time, maybe just to go between EPCOT and MK.

Is this an efficient way to travel between the two. One of my guidebooks says it can be 20-30 minutes. It that true?

20 min? hmm never thought about the time it took. I guess it just doesn't feel that long, but it can very well be 20 min. You have to change monorails at the Transportation and Ticket Center and board the one for Epcot. It's a great ride and a nice alternative to the bus. I don't think it's that long though...perhaps mroe like 15 min total, but again, you can't even tell how long it is without clocking it. The view is breath taking and time will fly by. Definately try it once.

The time did fly while we on the monorail. Going through the hotel is really something to behold. I'd say 15 minutes sounds about right.

voban,

If you can get a ride up front with the driver. The view is the great!

The monorail is more like ride then transportation.

I had a bad expirience with the monorail this past trip. It took 35 minutes to get from Epcot to TTC. Then I needed to get back and it broke down when I started to get on. What a pain!

I've heard that there's an excellent chance that Disney will begin construction on a Light Rail system within the next few years which will incorporate AK, MGM and possibly Wide World of Sports.

The monorail is pretty good and the new trains (which are about 20 years old I think) are better than the old ones, but it really is a system that's a bit past its prime.

That said, the view is cool, they're air-conditioned and it's a pretty good way to get around the SS Lagoon and/or between MK and EC.

I definately consider it to be a ride. Every time I've gone since our honeymoon, I've always gotten at least two ride up front. We always get very cool operators, so if there's traffic or technical problems, we really don't mind the delay. We love talking to CM's from around the country and around the world in some cases.

I love the monorail its so fun, yes .. there have been times when it was down and I needed to get someplace ..but oh well .. life is an adjustment :)
I never thought about how long the ride was to Epcot .. and yes as tigger said .. riding up front is the best ..and dont forget to ask for you co-pilot license if you do!!!

IMHO, the monorail ride between MK & Epcot is best when you've had a long day at MK and are headed over to Epcot for dinner or Illuminations. If you're in a hurry, it is a 15 minute ride...but it is absolutely the best way to rest your feet and cool down! Sometimes the ride doesn't seem long enough!

When taking the monorail, I guess I've never really watched the time, just the view. Like someone else said, it could take 20 minutes or so. I do remember one time taking it to the Poly, and the monorail had trouble. That trip was 45 minutes. Oh well, we were late for breakfast. But it all worked out!!!:) JOANN

have you heard about co-pilot licenses and riding in the front. It was so cool and you get a co-pilot license when you ride unless they forget. it might be harder to ride during the summer because people want to ride. we did it in fall and i rode up front 3 times and best of all no wait. awesome view of everything.:)

My DD thinks the monorail is a ride!! We never miss an opportunity to ride! In fact, I think it's a great thing to do on your first day. Check into your resort, have a swim, eat dinner at Chef Mickey's and ride the monorail! So much fun!

Re: MONORAIL Efficient?

Our son loves the monorail. We try to ride it when ever we can. We don't ever question how long the ride is taking or how long the ride was....we are always just enjoying " the moment".

I just wanted to know the time/efficiency thing for times that we may have PS at another park, etc. We would really like to ride the monorail this time for sure. Who do you ask about riding up in front?

By the way, thanks for all of the input.
