Resort Child Care Programs

Hubbie and I would like to go out one night for a few hours and there are several resort child care programs that sound like fun for our 8 yo son.

Choices are: Sandcastle Club (Beach Club)
Simba's Clubhouse (AKL)
Neverland Club (Poly)

He loves animals, watching movies, playing games and computers.

Does anyone have a preference or suggestion? This would be the first time we have ever done this, leaving him with someone we do not know.

Thanks,
Kim

Ooooh, given that criteria, the Neverland Club, hands down.

You enter the room through Wendy's Bedroom, sign in on her bed and hop through the window into 'Never Never Land'

The videos they show are projected onto a large movie screen, with 'theatre' style stage seating for the kids. There is a video game 'room' and a computer game 'room' for kids to play. There's a large art area, dress up, dolls, building activities, loads of stuff to do. The theming is excellent, and the paintings on the walls, loads of fun.

Ooops! I forgot - my DD's first 'babysitter' was the Neverland Club and she still begs to go back there every trip we take.

FWIW, all the caregivers at Disney have been great.

Question-Is the Neverland Club suitable for a "young" four year old (will be turning 4 while we are there)? He will be accompanied by his 5 year old brother. I really want to use this service for one night because we are going with the Silver add on and we can basically use it for "free". Thanks

My DD just turned 4. We just returned from a short trip to WDW. We stayed at the Poly. We were there for 4 nights. Two nights she was a the Neverland club for a few hours. At first I felt guilty taking her there for two evenings. However she had a ball. After the first night, she asked to go back the second night. Our room was close to Neverland and everytime we walked past she asked if she could go. She is an only child, so she went by herself.
So yes IMO it is suitable for a young 4 year old. My DD was 4 years and 9 days.
We were very pleased with Neverland Club. I would not hesitate to take my DD back!

We went last month, along with my sister and her family and our kids spent 5 hours at the Neverland Club one night.

They had NEVER stayed with any one other than family (DS 8, DD 4, DNephew 9, DNeice 9). They had a BLAST and have asked SEVERAL more times if they can go back again!!

I highly recommend it! My sister and I thought we would be nervous leaving the kids with someone we didn't know, but they made us feel really comfortable (esp with the pagers!) and like I said, the kids LOVED it!

Ty&Jordan's Mom - yes, I feel it is very appropriate for a young 4. The themeing is very lovely and adds to the sense of wonder for the kids. Frankly, I don't care for the theming at AKL - it's very 'daycareish' if that makes sense.

The CM's at Neverland were a good mix of older and younger individuals, too, which means a good mix of activity and nurturing.

Hands down, it's our favorite center, although DD has loved going to her 'own spot in Disney' no matter which one she goes to.

Hope this helps!

Re: Resort Child Care Programs

Do you think I need to make reservations before we leave for WDW?

I hope he handles it ok?! He is an only child and being so far away from home, going to a strange place?? He does good by himself, just worrying I guess!

Yes, I would. They do have a 24 hour cancellation policy, so if you back out, keep that in mind!

Maybe you could go to dinner at O'hana at the Polynesian and then take a stroll down the beach. That way, you will be VERY close to the Neverland Club if that pager happens to go off. But, I bet he'll have a blast! My 4 year old DD loved it!! She can't wait to go back.

Re: Resort Child Care Programs

Our kids have been going to Neverland Club since 1997, when they were 4 and 5... During our visit this month, at 11 and 12, they were STILL ASKING if they could have a night there! The CMs are great at getting every kid to be happy while they are away from their parents. And they don't have to work very hard to make that happen... the place is so full of fun things and activities that the kids are only sad when it is time to go home!

Re: Resort Child Care Programs

Ok, he has a reservation for the Fri. of the first week we are there with a 5:30-6:00 drop off. That's not too early is it?

Hopefully if he likes it and would want to go back. We can then plan another night the following week (that is DH's hopes).

Re: Resort Child Care Programs

the neverland club is the perfect place since they have a large video game room. Plus last time they had a lady come with animals that the children could pet and feed.
