Re: fake pins

I've only seen one of those Sedesma pins but I knew right away it was a fake. If you pick up a real Disney pin and a fake sedesma pin you will know the difference right away, the real Disney pins are heavier and better made, the fake one I had was really light and felt like plastic. I don't remember what was on the back but I think they are stamped Sedesma.

Re: fake pins

When you guys say pins you mean like pins that go on your clothes right? Because I have seen some on Ebay when I was looking for DisneyWorld stuff.

Re: fake pins

The thing I have going for me is that we ONLY buy pins when we go to WDW so this is never a concern for me.

Buyer beware...

Then you only have to worry about Sedesma pins if you trade pins while you're at WDW. I have seen a few CMs with Sedesma pins on so just be carerful and look at the back of the pin before you finish the trade.

Re: fake pins

Sedesma pins are actually authorized merchandise manufactured in Spain by a company licensed by Disney. They certainly have a distinctly different feel/look than their American counterparts! I only have perhaps a dozen - out of the 3500 pins in my collection. Personally they are not to my liking (though my daughter trades for them constantly!) but Sedesma pins are not out to get anybody, cheat you, ruin your fun or this hobby. They are as officially tradable at WDW as any rack pin you buy there. Any Cast Member that tells you differently is misinformed. Trade for the pins you like, leave the ones you don't... but if the swap makes you happy don't worry about.

Re: fake pins

Look closely at pin trading etiquette number 2. it says in a roundabout way that Sedesma pins are not tradeable. The pins must be a metal pins. Sedesma pins are not metal and are obviously not like the disney pins. The Disney pins are made of heavy metal and the more intricate ones weigh quite a bit.

Pin trading etiquette

We had a cast member in EPCOT question whether one of my daughter's pins was not a "Disney" pin and he would not trade with her until he looked it up and saw that it was a Disney Pin. I do not like the Sedesma pins and inform the cast members whenever we get one. My daughter will not take a Sedesma. She says and I agree that they are not real Disney pins.

Re: fake pins

Sedesma pins can be black around the edges, FYI.

There are lots of pins out there that are not Disney pins. I think that instead of trying to figure out what the non-Disney pins say on the back, it might be easier to see that the real ones say Disney and have the registered trademark sign (the little R in the middle of a circle).

I am not an expert, and someone will post who knows a lot more about this than I do, but I have seen that on occasion, some Disney pins also say other stuff -- like Limited Edition, or Whimsical Animals.
