Haunted Mansion Going To Retire At The End Of 2003

Sadly the beloved Haunted Mansion is going the way of Mr. Toad's wild ride. Very reliable sources tell me that by the end of 2003 it will go forever. An inside memo states that although it is a crowd favoriate, it is too dated and attempts to update it have not met the expectations of several imagineers and they are going to put something else in its place. There are many different ideas on the drawing board on what is going to go there. One idea was to put a Haunted House type ride that goes on a roller coaster platform without the intense speed of a traditional roller coaster. It will be a dark ride with all of the best technology they have today. Part simulator and part reality. Nothing is set in stone, but I for one do not want to see one of my favoriates go the way of the Toad. Let's start a petition that will keep the Haunted Mansion around for decades more. In Disney's attempt to go where no park has gone before they still have to keep some stuff for us purist.

( admin note - this thread is a fabrication, and not true in any sense. Thanks! )

Well I hope this is a very bad rumor.
I find it hard to believe that Disney would get rid of a favorite attraction. Everytime I've been to the MK the line for the Haunted Mansion is very long. If this turns out to be true, what's next Cinderella's Castle?:(

I too find this hard to believe. This (rather the one in DL) was one of Walt's original ideas. It is one of the attractions that visitors inquire about the most ie the dancing scene and hitchhiking ghosts.

Yes the tech. is a bit outdated, but I think that they could update the way we ride through it without changing the actual attraction much.

They could do away with the stretching room part at first and I wouldn't care, but I love that ride! Smallworld

Well, i was gonna say isn't a movie being made... but, they made the Country Bears movie, and then took the attraction out of DL.

This is exactly what people said about the other attractions that closed down; it just can't happen. But it does and it will--unfortunately. I am all for "the new" but we need to keep the past as well. I could see if an attraction was underutilized but there is always a line at the mansion day or night! Smallworld

No offense but i'm a skeptic here, why would they do refurb right now for a month only to shut it down in the future? When it comes out of a disney mouth i'll sign a petition....

NOOOOO!
I have only been to WDW twice and have been at HM several times!
If this is true, I am happy we will be able to see it in December.
If a petition helps....tell me where to make my X.
