Will Fast Pass not be free anymore??

I was just over at jimhillmedia.com,and there are two articles about the fast-pass system. It seems that there is the possibility that the fast pass system might go the way of Universal and become a resort perk only. I hope that doesn't happen. Walt would be turning over in his cryogenic tank(this is the rumours page,I had to say something about that one!!)if this happened for real!!!

Re: Will Fast Pass not be free anymore??

I don't see why Walt would care. And how is this any different from EMH? It has been sold in the past and is now a Resort Perk.

Business-wise I think it's a smart move. I don't think everyone else should be left out, but some type of extra Fastpass perk for resort guests would be nice. Maybe the option for two fastpasses at once?

Re: Will Fast Pass not be free anymore??

I think it would be a good idea, since resort guests pay to stay on property they should be rewarded. For those not staying on property, it would be a good marketing tool to maybe get them to stay.

If they do end up offering it to resort guests only, at least there are resorts in all price ranges. At Universal, the hotels are very expensive.

I agree, I don't see a problem with it. They are trying to give every incentive they can to those who stay in their resorts. Think about it, why would you stay off site anymore if staying on site means more hours in the parks and shorter lines than anyone else.

I still say it stinks for Fl residents who don't NEED to stay at a hotel.

Please don't take away my fast passes!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Will Fast Pass not be free anymore??

I doubt they would take away fast passes. The business end of it is the less time you spend in lines, the more opportunities for you to spend $$ in the park. They may add some type of extra perk for resort guests though (multiples would be nice, but I would guess that would take some I.T. changes that may make it cost prohibitive - there are other ways like EMH or special rates to attract folks to stay on site.)

I'm opposed. Fast pass helps everyone by distributing the crowds more evenly. Everyone doesn't have to run to ride all the big attractions first.

Re: Will Fast Pass not be free anymore??

I may be in the minority here, but I like this idea. I think that it should also be for AP and SP holders too however. Pass holders are loyal customers and derserve this "perk" as much as the resort guests. There should be extra perks for guests who visit often, but don't have to stay over to do so. I can see why that this idea is being thought of. It would be one other reason to stay in a WDW resort. At least there are affordable resorts.

Re: Will Fast Pass not be free anymore??

As someone who has stay off-site a few times (but will probably be on-site from now on), I don't like this idea. Why penalize people who are paying the same amount to get into the park because they are staying in more affordable lodging?

EMH is a different critter. WDW is giving additional time outside of the regular posted hours, not taking away time from outside guests.

Re: Will Fast Pass not be free anymore??

I don't really care either way, because I'm an onsite junkie. But I agree that they would definitely have to give the same perk to AP and SP holders, or it would be completely unfair to FL residents!

I'm skeptical, though...it seems like one of Disney's very favorite things to promote on their planning DVD is that Fastpass is FREE, FREE, FREE!!

Of course, maybe they'll just start using it as a marketing tool to get people to stay onsite. Hmmmmm. That would certainly make sense from a business standpoint.

I like the idea and think it would also be a good business decision.

It would HAVE to be available to AP holders also.

Re: Will Fast Pass not be free anymore??

There is quuite a bit about this on WDWmagic http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=56571 and the opinion there is that it won't happen. Alot of its to do with the fact someone(at disney?) had patented the fastpass idea. And they say that reports on Jimhillmedia.com should be taken with a very large pinch of salt.
