Hard Rock park

Any one know the latest on the new Amusement park that is coming to Myrtle Beach?

Originally, it was suppose to open this year. I know that won't happen, but is it still being built?

Re: Hard Rock park

I heard about this several years ago, but it hasn't been mentioned at all. I don't know if the park fell through or if they fell behind schedule. I will try to get some information about this as soon as possible.

I live about 45 minutes from Myrtle Beach and this was the first I've heard of a Hard Rock Park....my guess is the plans went south...They're try to 'beautify' Myrtle Beach so much I dont think the town would let them do it. In the past several years Myrtle has lost a lot in toursim to quieter beach towns like Hilton Head and Kiawah

Well, last I heard was that early this year they were about 1/4 short of funds and the highway plans needed to be completed to accomidate the park. I don't think the plans went south yet, I just think they were greatly delayed. this park was to revitalize the Fantasy Harbor Area. So, it wouldn't be right in Myrtle and it was suppose to be a year round park complete with a Hard Rock Pavilion and Resort Hotel.

I was just kidding. I am surprised that some of the hall of fame stars haven't pitched in, but then again, maybe they have.

There are a lot of us out here who would consider a job at Disney fun. Too bad most of us are not in situations to do this. Disney would benefit from having us with them.

If I was financially able I would work there for fun also and would probably put on quite the show for guests.

Re: Hard Rock park

Finally... looks like things are officially moving forward from the Sun newspaper this morning:

Theme Park Proposal Looks Better

Private-funding plan more appropriate

A Hard Rock theme park proposed for Fantasy Harbour has become much more attractive to us now that developers say they will not be asking for public funding.

The developers say they have figured out how to build the project with private funds, and that is exactly the way the park should be financed. In most cases, developers who can't attract adequate private funding for a project should re-examine its feasibility.

In January, the developers, HRP Management Co., asked Horry County Council for $25 million to $30 million in bonds. But HRP wanted to discuss the park plans with the council in private - something the council rightfully refused to do. We understand the company's wish to keep its plans away from competitors, but it's a different ballgame if it wants public funding. Openness and scrutiny must be part of the process.

Now that it has come up with private funding, it certainly is entitled to keep its plans under wraps.

Most of the attractions, restaurants and hotels along the Grand Strand have been built by business people who were able to attract investment on their own. Certainly most of the small businesses that form the backbone of the nation's economy came into being without public funding.

The Hard Rock theme park has potential to be a tremendous addition to the Strand. The well-known name could lure new tourists with its outdoor concerts and amusement rides.

But that isn't enough reason to justify public funding. That should be reserved for businesses that have the potential to attract good-paying jobs or otherwise stimulate the economy. Although the theme park would create some year-round jobs, they would, for the most part, not be the types of jobs desperately needed here: those that come with good wages and benefits.

Horry County Council, in sticking to its guns on open discussion with companies seeking public money, set a strong precedent to follow when similar requests come from other developers.

Re: Hard Rock park

I meant to find this thread a few days ago...I saw on the news that they were coming back to Myrtle to survey the land again..so I guess that means it's coming along..it'll be nice, I am about 45 minutes away so it'll be exciting to have a park close! I only about 1 1/2 hours away from Carowinds but I have never been..

Re: Hard Rock park

Sounds cool. Do we start another thread to speculate rides or can we just do that here? "One Hit Wonderland" could be their kiddie park.
