New personal on-ride park DVD - non Disney

This is an awesome new concept... Multiple Cameras capture your on-ride experience from multiple angles through rides in park to create a unique DVD souvenir unlike any other. This is new technology and hopefully Disney will develop something similar (and better) in the near future.

XTREMEX3 Signs Agreement with Paramount's Kings Dominion for On-Ride Digital Video System for Thrill Rides
Monday July 11, 8:51 am ET

CHANTILLY, Va., July 11 /PRNewswire/ -- XTREMEX3 announced today that it had established a contractual relationship with Paramount's Kings Dominion for the development and introduction of on-ride digital video.
The XTREMEX3 system records and synchronizes multi-camera full-motion videos of every guest in every car from the moment the train leaves the station through every heart-pounding moment to the end of the ride. The turnkey system, designed specifically for theme park operators, produces full- motion DVD mementos for each guest.

"We're very pleased to work with Paramount's Kings Dominion of Paramount Parks, one of the world's leading developers and operators of theme parks and location-based entertainment," said Phil Sweatman, President and CEO. "Our patent-pending on-ride digital video system is the next-generation of retail concessions for theme parks. It's not just about increasing per capita revenue, it's about innovation! Guests exit the park with branded, full-motion video mementos of their favorite rides."

"We're excited that we're the first park in North America to deliver an on-ride digital video system that captures the entire ride experience for each of our guests" said Eugene Naughton, Resale Vice President of Paramount's Kings Dominion. "Our customers -- parents, kids, and friends -- will love to have their ride experiences in full-motion video at a price that is comparable to digital photography."

XTREMEX3 for Thrill Rides (X3-TR) is an on-ride digital video system that records, stores, synchronizes, and plays back multi-camera video on roller coasters and thrill rides. XTREMEX3 and Paramount's Kings Dominion initially will deploy the X3-TR system on the Taxi Jam ride.

X3-TR is a turn-key system: multiple on-board cameras, station processing servers and high-speed wireless devices, and retail point-of-sale self-serve kiosks. Key features of the X3-TR digital video system include:

ON-BOARD AND STATION SYSTEMS
-- On-board cameras that capture each guest's entire ride

-- One camera per car to capture every guest's exciting experience

-- One camera on the front of the first car so every guest gets the best
seat!

-- Synchronized playback of multiple cameras in broadcast quality MPEG-2
video and audio

-- High-speed wireless transfer that works in accordance with FCC
regulations

-- Turn-key retail operation, with touch-screen, self-serve retail
point-of-sale stations

RETAIL DVD
-- Mini-DVD with easy to use DVD menus

-- DVD playback screens with park operator branding

-- E-mail clips of each customer on each ride that guests can send to
family and friends

-- Theme park and affiliate content

XTREMEX3 is headquartered in Virginia and all systems are designed and manufactured in the USA. Customer service account managers are based in regions across the country.

Not sure, but it says it will premiere on Taxi Jam which is a small coaster. This makes sense though since it is normally your child's first coaster, so the potential to buy the DVD will be strong on that one while they are testing and tweaking the technology for the bigger coasters and rides.

I would love a PhotoPass type card at Disney where you swipe before you ride, then go home and compile a DVD of your park visit. How cool could that be?

That would be amazing. And I am sure that it could be possible in the not so distant future.

I would love it if Disney did this for their parks!!! Hopefully they would do it as a park wide DVD, insted of individuals for each ride. If they did, I would buy every one!!!

Man, this would be AWESOME!!!!! And the idea that it works like a PhotoPass is excellent, too!

This would be so incredibly easy to do. Totally interactive, and you'd have 30 days to buy the DVD, or your movies would be wiped out. Anyway, how I would suggest they do this is have clips from predetermined places on different rides (like when the dinosaur attacks you at the end of Dinosaur, or the hitchhiking ghost in HM--they'd have to have the camera positioned just right in the doom buggy, and ensure that people would not be blocking it, but that would be easy, too) as a teaser for your personal experiences. Then, you'd select which videos you'd like to have, arrange them on the DVD(s), and then they would burn them, put a "Disney" logo on the cover, and send it off to you.

After doing all that myself for the past five days, I would say that I would pay around $30/DVD.

As I said, this would be VERY EASY for them to do. The technology exists already, because it would be based on their PhotoPass tech that they currently use. The only thing is that they would need a WHOLE LOT of storage space. Terrabytes, probably. If they would do this, I could see them requiring people to request it before they get on the ride. For example, they could use your room key or ticket. They have a card reader built into the cars/individual seats, and you just swipe your ticket through it when you get on. That way, it will activate the camera in/around/above/whatever your seat, so that all the action from your perspective would be recorded.

Easy. Easy, easy, easy. All it takes is a lot of storage, a large amount of cameras, and a little time. I would have it test on rides like HM, IASW, Pooh, Peter Pan, SWSA, PotC, and Splash Mountain first. It would be rather hard to do for a ride like Space Mountain or RnR, but that's OK. Those rides probably couldn't have this technology anyway.

Another method of space saving would be to have people pay for the card and DVD ahead of time. Sell it with specifications of say 30 rides with the DVD capable of containing 15 of those rides or something. Then, you have the money for space up front and the potential to buy a second movie and other options after you get home.

Needless to say, there is lots of potential here for Disney and all parks.

I totally agree with themed rides, generic inserts would enhance the experience a lot. Even show your final score on Buzz for example.

We just returned from a 7 day cruise and the videographer was everywhere. They sent one out on shore excursions too. Makes a wonderful vacation memory. They captured almost every activity on the ship!
