McDonald's Leaving WDW

Someone told me WDW is breaking off ties to McDonalds. Just curious if this effective immediately? or is there a phase out time? Any clues who gets to be the lucky one replacing McDonalds?

Re: McDonald's Leaving WDW

Well, yeah, that is semi-true. It sounds to me like Disney isn't cutting ties 100% but more like cutting back on reaching out to children THROUGH McDonald's; meaning no more Disney "Happy Meal" toys, etc. Although, still trying to maintain the relationship to reach adults. I am not sure that it is confirmed anywhere that the McDonald's outposts in WDW itself will be closing, I haven't read that anywhere.

I found this article which was pretty interesting...

Re: McDonald's Leaving WDW

This thread has a link that says McDonald's will still be in the theme parks. I'm hoping that's true, my DS loves McDonald's fries and they make a great snack for him in the parks.

Re: McDonald's Leaving WDW

Shucks. I was really hoping they'd take out the McDonald's and maybe put in something a little, I don't know, healthier. My compliments to Disney on this decision, though... McDonald's is just so bad, and little kids are often sucked in by the promise of a cool little toy. I remember when I was little I HATED the food there, I thought it tasted gross and greasy, I'd only get it because of the toy inside. Eventually I got used to the food and liked it.
I don't eat McDonald's at all anymore though, just smelling it makes me want to blow chunks!

If they do ever end up getting rid of the McDonald's places in WDW, I sure hope they evict it from DL too.

Re: McDonald's Leaving WDW

Ya know, this actually kinda makes me happy. We only go to McDonalds because of the Happy Meal toys most of the time. I feel guilty feeding it to my kids, it's so greasy and unhealthy, and yes I did see SuperSize Me. Heehee!

I wouldn't miss those McDonald's outposts... who needs those fries? They don't fit in at WDW.

Re: McDonald's Leaving WDW

I din't realize they were no longer going to be using Disney toys in the happy meals, I thought they were just going to pull the carts out of WDW. They don't fit in my opinion.

Re: McDonald's Leaving WDW

You can get McDonalds FF's everywhere - why would I go to WDW to eat them? I think this may be a good move and I would love it if Disney found a way to make and sell healthy items. I would buy them!

I think that it would also be cool if the snack items were more themed to the parks or areas in question. There's just nothing about McDonald's french fries which says "Animal Kingdom Dinoland" to me...

Re: McDonald's Leaving WDW

I hate the way they sneak McDonalds in WDW. Like in Animal Kingdom, we went to Restaurantosaurus (sp?), I think that's where it was, and it was nothing but McDonald's. I can eat McDonald's at home. We need something different at WDW.

Re: McDonald's Leaving WDW

I dislike McDonald's for everything except breakfast. I like Burger King better, but since they changed their fries several years back, McDonald's fries are better.

I won't miss the Mcdonalds at all. I never eat it while at WDW. Why eat something I can get at home? I also agree with soundgod. I really only like their breakfast.
