Treehouse Villas to be replaced???

OK, so sue me, I was trolling on another site. But I ran across this gem, and though you might be interested! VERY interested!!!

NEWS: Treehouse Villas to Be Replaced - New DVCs?! - The DVC Boards at MouseOwners.com - the place to talk DVC and Walt Disney World

It shows documents for the rehab/replacement of the treehouses. I have always thought they looked cool from the water! (And technically, I did not see any mention of DVC, so who knows what it will be...)

No I won't sue but I will thank you for the information. Wow! I always wanted to stay in the treehouses, now may be one day I can. I always thought the treehouses were quite unique. Thanks for the info.

That is interesting! I got to stay in one of those bungalows ONCE, it was probably around 91-92 because one of my best friend's Dads was a huge golf nut & the courses are right there. It was cool, but nothing overly impressive as I can recall. There wasn't a whole lot of theming, just nicely appointed. I almost remember it feeling like a non-Disney timeshare on Disney property. If I look hard enough I might be able to find a pic or two.

I hope they are able to turn that whole area into something, it's such a huge space & it's a waste if they are just sitting around. I thought I had heard that some international cast members were living there but once a CM told me that Regis Philbin stays there when he comes to WDW b/c of the privacy!

Who knows if what you hear is true, but it's interesting.

Who knows if what you hear is true, but it's interesting.

They were all being used when we were at POR at Christmas. Most had Christmas trees or lights and looked very lived in. The CM driving the boat did say the international CM were living there.

I think i heard somewhere that they have to revamp the current buildings and that they cant tear down and rebuild due to the wetlands- it would be tricky but it was in the plans. As for the international CM's Im sure they will find somewhere- the possibilities are endless

Yes, that is what the CM on our boat said as we cruised by . . . he said that the front ones we can see are "staged" to look lived in . . . the ones we can't see are being let to "go back to nature" because they are in protected wetlands, so there is no access for heavy machinery to get back there to remove them!

Altho, this is Disney were talking about . . . if there is a will there is a way . . . did you read Realityland yet? WOW . . . they know how to make things "happen"!

I also read that somewhere. I also thought the International CM live in some apartments around DisneyWorld.

When I was a CP last fall, the Treehouses were used as overflow housing for ICP's. I'm not positive that this is still true, but I think so. Disney is currently building another CP apartment complex near The Commons (which is were the majority of ICPs live) but it doesnt look very close to completion.

It loooks to me on the blueprints pictures that they are keeping all the same buildings, but I never knew there are 60 of them!

That use to be my favorite part of the boatride to DTD from POR! Id love to get the chance to stay there they looks pretty interesting, I have heard of the ICP's staying there too

When we were there in October we saw people hanging out on the balconies of the treehouses at night so people definitely do live in them. They look so neat - I think some sort of a rehab is a great idea. We had one of the boat drivers tell us that the reason they stopped using them as hotel rooms was due to Handicap laws - they are not handicap accessible.
