dac - if you are all sitting at one table, you are a party of 6, so it would be added. the only way not to get it added is to do 2 seperate adr's, and sit at 2 seperate tables.

Re: disney dinng plan and tips?

it'd be like going to red lobster with a party of 10, and all separate checks, it's still a party over 10 and they'd still tack on the tip (assuming red lobster adds a tip for parties over 10). doesn't matter that it's separate bills, you could all pay separately (6 checks for 6 people even) and if your entire party (table) is over that magical number, you still get the tip added.

Yes, but you are still a party of six. When we go we eat with friends of ours who live in Orlando. With them at our table, we are still a party of 6, even though they are not even staying a Disney.

OK, but which one gets the tip added to it? Do both checks get an 18% gratuity added?

Can I just say that I like it better when the tip was included?

I have been getting tips of $0 on checks of $150-$300, I then have to pay the bartender out, the busser out, and the food runner out. A table of five with a bill of $175 will actually COST me about 15 bucks if no tip is given. Its extremely frusturating! I know none of you fine and highly educated MB'ers would never stiff someone, but you wouldnt believe how many people do!
I am sorry to hear about this- was there an opinion among servers that removing the tip was going to be an improvement? I wonder if WDW decision makers considered that people would stiff the waitstaff when they took the gratuity away.

We have the DDE, and I now add to the grauity for good service since they are only taking 18%.

the tip would be added to all checks at the table.

i liked it better when it was included too - not just for the savings (which is a big part of it) but also, for not having to worry about that extra amount - i liked the idea that it was all included, and i only needed to bring extra, or charge to the room if i felt it was needed. oh well, maybe they'll change it back sometime before i get to use it again (which will be 123213121 years at this rate)!

I appreciate it! I wish more people felt this way. I know people feel that they do not get good service when the tip is included but I always work extra hard in hope of extra tip. It is very rewarding to get even one or two extra dollars, I always feel like I did a really good job then!

I worked as a waitress at Friendly's during graduate school. I waited on some of the most obnoxious people ever, and I never forgot how hard I worked for my tips... Everyone should have that experience .

I will also be a party of 6 (2 parties of 3 sitting together) in September and spoke to a CM at Disney Dining recently to discuss this issue. He explained to me that each check will have an 18% gratuity added based on the total of that individual check.

When I asked about not wanting to tip a server at, say, Crystal Palace buffet $20 for refilling my drinks... he stated that if the service was not up to par, I could dispute the total with the manager, but if the service was "adequate", that $10.26 would be added to each of our bills.

The only other solution that was offered was to make 2 ressies for 2 tables and asked to be sat at adjacent tables. I was told that I would have to tell them again at the podium at each restaurant and would probably have an additional wait time, but that then the tip would not be charged to my check, only recommended (because we are now at separate tables).

Somewhat ridiculous...

OK, but the individual checks will be for a party of 4 and a party of 2, not a party of six.

I guess this is bothering me more than I thought. I know this is going to ruin our vacation. My DH does not like to be forced to do anything and I can see this leading to several uncomfortable situations.

I discussed this with him last night and he got annoyed. This is making my head hurt.
