I certainly wish this were true, but as of work last night we have been told nothing to this affect.

Oh, say it's true.... I am planning a trip for aug/sept and have purchased DDP. My major complaint is not that the tip wasn't included per sey, it's that it was automatically going charged to me for my party of 6. I hate the idea of someone telling how much I have to tip. If the tip goes back in to the DDP, problem solved!

Fingers crossed that this is true... please, please , please!

Re: disney dinng plan and tips?

I'm hoping this is true too although i am not too optimistic...my sister was there last week and she said the gratuity was added to the bill. she had one suggestions though...tell your server that you want to add your own tip and that they should not automatically charge your credit card. also, you can use your ddr...

Re: disney dinng plan and tips?

Gratuity will automatically be added to all parties of 6 or more at any Disney resturant. This is a standard across property whether or not you have DDP. The problem with tip not being on DDP anymore is that people who have previously had it do not understand that it is no longer included. I have been getting tips of $0 on checks of $150-$300, I then have to pay the bartender out, the busser out, and the food runner out. A table of five with a bill of $175 will actually COST me about 15 bucks if no tip is given. Its extremely frusturating! I know none of you fine and highly educated MB'ers would never stiff someone, but you wouldnt believe how many people do!

From WDW web site:

*Applicable taxes are included. Gratuity is not included except for Dinner Shows and Cinderella's Royal Table. Merchandise or photo-imaging products that may be offered at Character Dining Experiences are not included, except at Cinderella's Royal Table.

Re: disney dinng plan and tips?

Gosh I would love it if this were true.

How does the automatic tip thing work with free dining? Does it just go on the credit card of record you gave when you checked in?

Also, how does it work if you have a party of six with 2 separate reservations, 2 separate dining plans? Would it then be a party of four and a party of 2?

We are four and my DM and DFIL are two on a separate ressie, but we will all be dining together.

Wow...maybe Disney should really rethink the no tip included in the DDP. They could easily put if back and leave off the appetizer. It's not fair that servers who get no tips are paying out to the bartenders and busser, etc. Of course it's ridiculous that people are running up high bills and not leaving any tips.

I don't like when tips are automatically added. I understand why they are though. We are good 18%-20% tippers. I tip according to level of service, food quality, and overall experience. Just because we have a larger party we should not be told what tip is mandatory. A tip is still supposed to be voluntary.

Most other restaurants implement a mandatory tip to a party of 8 or more not 6.

Can this be disputed if they apply the tip and you wish to adjust it? Just curious, I don't think this would be the case with us.

If you're all at one table then you're a party of 6.
If you have 2 separate reservations and are dining at different tables/times then no grat would be added.

If you really make an issue of it, the manager would probably take the grat off, but the server would have no say in it. It would totally be managers discression.

Got a questions, not sure of the answer even though I should - here it is... we will be in WDW in September - we are 4 and then my parents (6) - I am planning on making all ADRs for 6 but we will need two seperate bills - we have two seperate rooms and two seperate reservations numbers, so will the tip be automatically added?
