Re: WDW's 5th park, Night Kingdom?
It sounds like a neat idea that will go nowhere.
If you're going to spend a bunch of money for animal encounters and the like, I believe I would go for a more "authentic" experience. Sounds a bit like the Disney Institute. Interesting... neat opportunity... but who is really going to do that?

Re: WDW's 5th park, Night Kingdom?
I Read this today!
LAKE BUENA VISTA -- There has been growing buzz that Walt Disney World may be planning a new theme park that would be aimed at adults. Disney neither confirmed, nor denied reports on Internet blogs concerning a new park that would hold just 2,000 people at a time, and be built near Pleasure Island. The blogs claim Disney would open its new park, called "Disney's Night Kingdom," in the fall of 2011. The park would only be open 4 p.m. to midnight, and not offer traditional rides, but instead have attractions like rock-climbing, zip-lining, and a safari tour that would require night vision goggles. Rick Fogleson, author of the critical book, "Married to the Mouse," told News 13 an adult-leaning park would be a savvy way to convince more adults to spend their money at Disney. "In essence, what it does is to bring back people who came as kids, but to bring them back as young adults, but to bring them back with adult experiencesb" Fogleson said. The Internet blogs claimed the new park would not come cheap. Reports put cost of admission around $300. A Disney spokeswoman only told News 13 many ideas they explore never become a reality, but if and when Disney planned to make an announcement, it would be done in grand Disney fashion. Re: WDW's 5th park, Night Kingdom?
This is one of those things where I can tell I would love it, and now that we have two teens instead of two toddlers, it might be a GREAT thing to do as a family.
It's VERY HARD to find exciting adventurous things that we all like to do together... DH likes camping, but I don't, etc. So this will be a very nice opportunity for hard-to-fit families like ours! YAY!

Neat idea, but I'm just not that into animals and nature-y things!

Re: WDW's 5th park, Night Kingdom?
I'd be very unhappy to have Disney experiences that we and other folks just couldn't afford. One thing I like about Disney is the way it's open to everyone.
I'd really rather see a fifth park, yes, but not a $200-300 one. Ideally I'd like to see WDW DisneySea, like Tokyo's. |

Re: WDW's 5th park, Night Kingdom?
Like others have said this whole thing doesn't sound like Disney. On another thread, someone posted theme park attendance for all Disney parks and other theme parks. By far, Disney out attracts people to their parks (something like 4 or 5 to 1). So this 'exclusive' park that is so limited and won't run at 100% capacity until year 3 would be poor business sense, especially if they were charging $300 per person. Even at full capacity running 365 days a year, this park would have ticket sales of about $22million. I can't imagine there would be a high profit in this figure once operating costs, etc were deducted.
Disney has a big draw already, it doesn't need an exclusive catch like Discovery Cove (which markets to lots of Dolphin contact time where a low number of people would be necessary). Plus I think interacting with a Dolphin would have a far more popular draw than some of the 'night' activities. I also don't understand how this new park would be located at Pleasure Island (or near it) but would include all the animals. First PI area is in a relatively high traffic area, I can't see how putting animals in that area would be a good idea (especially with all the lengths Disney goes to maintaining animal care at AK). It would make more sense to attach this new 'park' to AK. Also, if the Adventurer's Club is its entry point, wouldn't that mean it would no longer be open to PI guests? So in addition to an exclusive park, you'd be eliminating a very popular PI club. Also the zip-line over crocs, doesn't sound very Disney-like....particularly from a safety point of view. Disney goes to great lengths to emphasis safety in their parks, I can't imagine an 'attraction' where the only thing between you and croc is several feet of air. Plus running a park with operating hours only at night has alot more safety considerations involved. My final thoughts are that Disney had other plans on the books for AK (a Beastly Bazaar section) and needs to revamp some of DHS. It would make more sense to put their money into those two parks (that have the lowest draw of attendance) than to open a new park.

Re: WDW's 5th park, Night Kingdom?
I do agree this would be quite a project for the Mouse and it would not fit the majority of WDW guest's budgets but it would work. Like the quote from one of my favorite movies non-Disney, "Build it and they will come". It would be an elitist experience that people would shell out the extra $$$ for and then brag to their friends and in turn would make their friends want to experience it too. So would I do it? Definitely if given the opportunity.

Re: WDW's 5th park, Night Kingdom?
Hmmm Im in two minds about this one. I think the idea is interesting but its not very Disney is it? I dont like the idea of the exclusivity or the price range, that is goin to make this an impossible place to visit for many families, I know Id be hard pushed to find that kind of extra money for ONE night!
I just cant see this working hmm

Re: WDW's 5th park, Night Kingdom?
It would be something interesting but I don't see it happening. It wouldn't make good business sense. Also, the cost would exclude many families (I can't imagine spending that much on one night, especially since couldn't/ wouldn't bring DD with me).

Re: WDW's 5th park, Night Kingdom?
It's taken us 5 years to shell out the $$$$$$$$ for Discovery Cove and we KNOW it is fantastic from many friends that have done it! I am not sure about this, it sounds kinda spooky and weird! Now I could be way off base but I do not think we would include it on our itinerary.
I think disney could use that kind of money to make a much better park than that!!!

Re: WDW's 5th park, Night Kingdom?
I agree with most of the other posts in this thread: not Disney like, too exclusive, and they should spend on money on upgrades to the parks already in existence then with this thing.
DHS could use some big time changes as the only things I like there are Star Tours and the Muppets 3D show. (Not a thrill ride person) I kind of like Animal Kingdom the way it is, although if they could find a way to add a couple more attractions, perhaps a Jungle Book themed ride. Now that would be cool

I don't buy it. I'm more convinced they're making the villians park.

Re: WDW's 5th park, Night Kingdom?
I agree. The villains park sounds more like what Disney would do to be edgy....not this Night park. They already miscalculated with Disney Institute. I don't think they would take the same chance with an entire park.
Plus, if you want a zipline adventure, go to Costa Rica with Adventures By Disney. Disney is and always has been dedicated to the family and I really don't see them alienating families with this type of park. Anyway you swing it, the average American family would not be who would be attending this....bad idea!
