Re: Line Rage at Disney!

In my excitement I have rushed into line only to have my DD say, "Mom, you're cutting into a family". I am thankful she warns me because I don't want to be rude.
During high temperatures and heavy crowds, you can understand the stress levels going up and see it happening to people all around you. Sometimes people try to do too much, fit everything in, which is impossible and very stressful. Expectations are high.
When I see someone stressed I say a prayer for them.

Compare the level of safety to any town in any country and show me how it can be done better. These are very isolated incidents. And they do happen and they will. Disney has no obligation/duty to do what it does better.

It does have to do the best they can - and the level they achieve is greater than most of the world.
No, I believe they DO have an obligation to provide security and as much safety as is possible given Disneys assets and position. They have a reputation to protect. And if they don't take measures to beef up security and patrol the parks these won't be "isolated incidents" for long. Even homeowners are expected to keep their property in a safe condition and their visitors from attacking the pizza delivery guy when he comes to the door. You can be sued for negligence otherwise. Hotels and motels have been sued for lack of security when people have been attacked in their rooms. Why would you expect less from a company that sells magic and fairy tales? It's the very place you'd expect to feel safest! There should have been someone from Disney nearby to remove this woman when she started yelling obscenities, before it could become a physical confrontation. I love Disney, but they need to take action.

As an FYI, this weekend I saw MORE DISNEY POLICE then ever before walking around the parks!! And there was a whole list of ways to "STAY SAFE" in your resort room. (ie. NO ONE from Disney would EVER ask you for personal info over the phone, etc!)

Times are a changing and Disney changes too!

I do have to say though, I think some families get a false sense of security at WDW . . . I saw a lot of kids walking around that looked WAY TO YOUNG to be out by themselves.

I know, some people don't watch their kids no matter where they are. I see them running loose through the malls, several yards from the parents, who are gawking in the store windows! Do they know the word "kidnapped"?

Mouse Goddess, maybe I didn't say what I was thinking clearly: It is my opinion Disney provides more security that the real world. They do more than your local PD. As a matter of fact, local jurisdictions you see installing video cameras on roof tops? Guess where the concept was perfected? Yep, WDW.

Incidents will happen. Personally, I don't want to see a cop/security guard at every ride, on every corner. But that's just me, I'm silly like that.

Disney is obligated to provide a safe venue, but not guarantee a crime free zone. That is impossible.

Yes you are correct, as is Boss Mouse, I believe you were both saying the same thing in different ways. BUT...the bottom line is we as adults are, or should be, responsible for our own actions. This womans actions were unbelievable! I understand being irritable because of heat, long lines and the like...but her reaction to her feeling like she was slighted is unacceptable...period! This was a woman traveling as part of a church group?? She and she alone should be held accountable for her actions!

Re: Line Rage at Disney!

Agreed, we are all responsible for our own actions and even if there is security at every ride entrance and exit, we can not stop some one from acting out, they have to do that for themselves, i.e. self control.

Re: Line Rage at Disney!

People feel self entitled to everything. Even with the Year of Million Schemes, every visitor is hoping to get something. Granted, not everyone will react the way she did.I have learned to have a more laid back approach to the parks and enjoy the moment.Hopefully the magic of Disney will be stronger than the unpleasantness of a few bad eggs. You always have to be on guard no matter where you are, but Disney still does it better than anyone.Disney provides a safe and enjoyable atmosphere. It is up to the individual to act in a responsible manner and be accountable for their own actions.

You're right, there are no crime free zones. Yesterday a true criminally insane man bought a butcher knife in a store at one of our malls here and stabbed a man to death by the food court! Horror movie stuff!
But as far as cops at every ride goes, I was thinking disguises instead of uniforms. Who would be upset by Goofy or Donald Duck hangin' out at Splash Mountain?
(Kidding!)

That's exactly what I meant by "low profile" security.
Nobody would take offence at being "guided" by a CM in character and if they did then they're in the WRONG place.

We've been visiting WDW and DL for almost 15 years and in the last few visits we've noticed a decline in the general behaviour of some other guests. I am in no way suggesting that Disney is responsible for this trend but you have to question what their future target audience is going to be. If they choose to introduce more thrill rides at the expense of "family" attractions then it's going to follow that their visitor demographic will change. I'm not against thrilling coasters at all , in fact I like them ,but the balance has to be right or WDW will become just another coaster park full of rampant teens.

Just a thought.

We agree totally. I started going to WDW in 1975 and you wouldn't believe the changes I've seen. In the incident I had two years ago at DL that I described earlier, that big bully looked about twenty. And I remember there used to be CM's strolling the length of the trams, up and down telling people they couldn't put their strollers on the seats, take your feet off the seat across from you, stuff like that and WATCHING. I looked all around for a CM to stop this guy before it could turn nasty, but there was no one but the driver and the girl on the back signalling it was clear to go.
Luckily my husband, being older, got the kid to back down.

Towered over me, and I'm 5'10"! But I said "excuse me!" and started to get on and he just stood there, blocking my way. So I said "EXCUSE ME!!, louder and managed to get on. Then he said something about me I didn't hear, but my DH who was behind this big thug DID hear and then he told him to watch his mouth and this guy starts threatening and I'm wondering, doesn't Disney have anybody to oversee these trams and such? This is getting to be a more and more dangerous world. These parks need to step up and at least TRY to provide a safe environment.
DISNEY is not to blame here it's the world and the people in it my dear. The worse that happened to you was a stepped on foot back in the day because people actually HAD manners and weren't self-absorbed idiots who thought they were entitled to something more. It's the world that is changing...maybe people should learn some curtesy and some manners. How can disney and how would disney man all the areas and provide security for every idiot that stepped foot in their parks? This is hardly possible. Being an agressive woman who is not shy in the least, I have no qualms putting people right in their place when they act rudely toward people or me in public. Someone needs to say something instead of allowing people to get away with this reidiculous behavior.

I was at Disney last weekend(3/29-3/31)and I noticed more security than ever before. I also didn't see any bad behavior. Maybe the security people with their uniforms that look like real cop's uniforms fool people into believing that the police are patrolling the parks.

What an unfortunate event that took place. WDW is sadly not immune to such outbursts from people that can't control themselves. The real victims are the kids that had to witness everything as well as the other people that happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I felt horrible for them after reading what had happened.

Yes, I agree. It IS the world and the mannerless deadheads that have changed the game. But Disney and actually all businesses have to change right along with it. And my main point is (and this was sorta lost a few posts ago!) they had better security back in the 70's than they do now. And that's why these nutty bars get away with it! As i said before, someone to stop it while it's still just mouthing off is what's needed.
You know, like in the good old days!
